    Thanks John, Kate, and Loserville.

I hope we see more activists engaging in this effort very soon. We have the momentum against Miller and we need to rally our troops.

If anyone has any questions on what to do, then post or PM.

    Let's get em team.

Miller Brewing Company Does Not Support Anti-Immigration Legislation
    Miller Brewing Company

    04/30/2006

There has been a great deal of attention recently around proposed anti-immigration legislation, specifically HR 4437, which is currently pending in Congress.

Miller Brewing Company opposes any legislation that would unfairly and unjustly seek to constrain immigration, including proposed HR 4437.

Miller was founded 151 years ago by a German immigrant, Frederick Miller. And today, we are part of an international company with employees from around the world. We support the free movement of people, labor, goods and services in the global economy with appropriate protections for the rights of individuals and families, the security of nations and the diversity that contributes to a rich and productive society.

In the wake of last week’s historic march in Chicago to uphold the civil and human rights of immigrants in this country, we immediately reached out to the community groups represented here today to make clear our joint opposition to this critical issue.

In productive discussions held yesterday, we agreed to:

    1) Provide assistance to community efforts to reach out to specific members of the Senate and business associations in Washington D.C.
    2) Make a clear public statement regarding our opposition to HR 4437 and our desire for appropriate immigration reform that provides adequate protection for the rights of undocumented immigrants.
    3) Place print advertisements in Chicago and Milwaukee media stating our opposition to HR 4437.
    4) Work with the organizations to explore opportunities for community-based partnerships with a particular focus on scholarships for undocumented students.

Miller is already active in helping immigrants learn how to become legally naturalized citizens of the U.S., through programs like the Miller Lite Immigration Forum in Texas.

We also have a long history of proudly supporting many national and local Hispanic organizations throughout the U.S.

We hope the entire Hispanic and immigrant community in Chicago will continue to responsibly enjoy Miller products with the knowledge that our company will continue to strongly support the Hispanic community and the rights of immigrants.

7-Eleven beverage executives teamed with Latin Brew Sales Company, the U.S. sales and marketing arm of Cerveceria La Constancia, to explore the idea of offering customers a premium import. The product development team headed south of the border to create the new product including flavor profile, product name, appearance, and packaging.

Imported from El Salvador, Santiago Cerveza De Oro is brewed by Cerveceria La Constancia. Cerveceria La Constancia is a wholly owned, independently operated subsidiary of BevCo, which is in a joint venture with London-based SAB Miller, the parent company of Miller Brewing Company.
The product is targeted to appeal to young adults, ages 21 to 27 because of their receptiveness to new products and brands.

But in the summer of 2004, the 38-year-old mother of four youngsters gave up representing poor Milwaukee residents in court and jumped to Miller Brewing Co.

There, she took on the newly created job of social responsibility director, charged with revamping the company’s community investment program.

In May, Miller unveiled REACH – which stands for Responsibilty, Employment, AIDS/HIV, Cultural Diversity, Heritage initiatives - as the new brand for its corporate giving efforts.

At a reception at the company Frederick J. Miller Pub, the company handed out $1.8 million in grants to 35 community organizations. The brewery also announced other partnerships, in-kind donations and volunteer efforts by employees.
From the corporate and social investment standpoint it has changed in that prior to me starting and prior to South African Breweries coming on the scene, Miller looked at investing its communities in a much more philanthropic manner.
The philosophy was to give a lot to everybody. That was terrific and we were able to reach out to a lot of different groups and talk to those different groups and have some impact.

What we do now is more focused. In corporate social investment, we look at people and groups in our communities that challenge the dominant ways of thinking and stereotypes and help bring a voice to those individuals. We considered our business strategy and our business needs. We then looked at the community and tried to marry those needs together.

    Apology From Brewer

    Published: August 21, 2004
The Miller Brewing Company apologized for failing to include any black musicians in its series of commemorative rock 'n' roll cans, part of a promotion with Rolling Stone magazine for the 50th anniversary of rock 'n' roll. The cans feature performers like Elvis Presley, Blondie and Alice Cooper, but no Bo Diddley or James Brown, critics noted. ''African-Americans obviously have played a formative role in the development of rock 'n' roll, and despite our efforts, we did not manage this component of the promotion appropriately,'' the company, based in Milwaukee, said on Thursday.

The support of a major corporation for a controversial political cause shows how fierce the competition has become to woo the growing market of Latino consumers.

For Miller, the march offered a special chance to catch up. This spring the brewer drew the ire of pro-immigrant forces over contributions to U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who sponsored legislation that would crack down on illegal immigrants. That prompted a short-lived boycott by some Latino groups.

Now, march advertisements feature not just the organizing committee's trademark blue globe but Miller's logo and a Spanish translation of its "Live Responsibly" slogan, a company effort to build goodwill among Latinos.

But this march is no Cinco de Mayo parade. The politically charged event will promote a controversial plan to end deportations and offer legal status for all 11 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants. That creates potential pitfalls for any businesses lending support, experts say.
