TOLL-FREE NUMBER TO SENATORS A RUSE?

The following toll-free number has been secured for supporters of S. 1348 (Kenndy/Kyl): 1-800-882-2005 (in Spanish!). The system will patch your call to your senators' D.C. offices based on the telephone number from which you are calling following specified prompts. (In my case, #1 for Feinstein and #2 for Boxer). However, I am concerned that once the patch is completed, the legislative staff person may see more than the incoming telephone number, notwithstanding one's urging a 'NO' vote on S. 1348. In short, the computer screen at the respective Senator's office, while reading the the incoming telephone number, may also see a default 'YES' urging on that same screen!

I just spoke with Senator Session's office and there is no way that the toll free number could unfairly bias the counts they keep unless our theory about the calls getting through better via this toll free pans out.

Of course, the organization that sponsored this toll free number could come out and claim that blah blah blah numbers of amnesty supporters used their service. But they are going to lie about those number whether we use the system or not.

With all due respect, I thought this has been discussed ad nauseum though there is no way of confirming it at the moment.

But they will hand the bill to the newspaper and the chance the paper will explore deeper is low.
