Congressman Gutierrez visits Reno, outlines reform ideas Sunday, September 05 @ 16:33:34 EDT by jamesw62 (78 reads) | One of Congress’ most outspoken voices on
immigration reform said Saturday that providing the 12 million
undocumented workers living in the United States a path to legalization
is not only necessary but inevitable.
When the baby-boomer generation retires, one-third of the national
work force will disappear, and the United States will have no choice
but to find more laborers, said U.S. Rep. Luis GutiƩrrez, D-Ill., the
first Latino member of Congress from the Midwest.
“This is unprecedented in our economic history,” he said of the
demographic trend. “Who is going to care for them? Who is going to
replace them?”
The U.S.-native population will not be able to meet this demand
because the non-Hispanic birthrate is less than two, meaning the size
of the work force is receding when it needs to be expanding, he said.

Wyo. Man Donates $1.5M to Defend Immigration Law Friday, September 03 @ 01:05:54 EDT by jean (319 reads) | PHOENIX (AP) — A Wyoming man has given more than $1.5 million to help defend Arizona's controversial immigration enforcement measure in court, Gov. Jan Brewer's office said Thursday.
The contribution from Timothy Mellon of Saratoga is the largest to Brewer's defense fund, which has amassed more than $3.6 million from 41,000 donors nationwide. Mellon could not immediately be reached for comment.
Mellon's Aug. 18 donation was 300 times more than the next-largest contribution of $5,000 — an amount donated by at least four people, records show.

Metcalf: Our failing immigration courts Friday, September 03 @ 00:44:50 EDT by jean (329 reads) | September 2, 2010 Mark H. Metcalf The Washington Times
Again, the Obama administration abandons the rule of law
One month ago - without notice to Congress, without a word to the American people - the Department of Homeland Security began dismissing from U.S. immigration courts the cases of thousands of illegal aliens. The department says it will focus its efforts on removing criminal aliens. Aliens without serious criminal histories - 250,000 by some estimates - will be left alone. This policy closely follows last August's announcement by the department that it would not deport fugitive aliens - aliens who skipped court or disobeyed orders to leave the United States. These policies assure that more illegal immigration will follow - with illegals confident that the administration, which refuses to secure this nation's borders, will not remove those who enter and remain illegally.

ICE: Few firms fined for hiring illegal workers Friday, September 03 @ 00:30:52 EDT by jean (250 reads) | Immigration inspectors poring over the hiring paperwork of a California company last summer found that 262 employees - a whopping 93 percent of the total work force - had "suspect" documents on file.

Inspectors examining records at a Texas manufacturing firm found suspicious paperwork for more than half of the 107 employees on the payroll.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio sued by Justice Department in civil-rights probe Thursday, September 02 @ 18:26:31 EDT by jean (278 reads) | Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been sued by the U.S. Justice Department for refusing to cooperate with a civil-rights probe into police practices and jail operations.
Arpaio said the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, is disappointing given that he and his office were cooperating on the federal probe. "I thought we were really close to getting this resolved," the sheriff said.

Rodriguez Plans at Least Two 'Machete" Sequels Thursday, September 02 @ 18:03:37 EDT by jean (274 reads) | On Friday, Robert Rodriguez’s “grindhouse” movie, Machete, will hit the theaters. Critics are panning it, but for all the wrong reasons. Joe Neumaier, writing for the New York Daily News, dismisses the film as a cheesy “feature-length exploito-rific action-drama” while the AP’s David Germain writes that Rodriguez’s movie is “never as fun or funny as he thinks it is.”

Signs in Ariz warn Smuggler Dangers: Drivers Advised to Travel North Thursday, September 02 @ 17:06:04 EDT by jamesw62 (277 reads) | The federal government has posted signs along a
major interstate highway in Arizona, more than 100 miles north of the
U.S.-Mexico border, warning travelers the area is unsafe because of
drug and alien smugglers, and a local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels
now control some parts of the state.
The signs were posted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along
a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a
major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego.
They warn travelers that they are entering an "active drug and
human smuggling area" and they may encounter "armed criminals and
smuggling vehicles traveling at high rates of speed." Beginning less
than 50 miles south of Phoenix, the signs encourage travelers to "use
public lands north of Interstate 8" and to call 911 if they "see
suspicious activity."

U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton on Aug. 31 granted Gov. Jan Brewer’s motion to dismiss the suit filed by Officer Martin Escobar. The suit was the first of six filed to seek to overturn SB1070, and the second dismissed by Bolton in the past week.

Department of Justice sues Arizona school system Thursday, September 02 @ 00:00:14 EDT by jean (317 reads) | Keeping the heat on Arizona’s immigration policies, the U.S. Justice Department has sued a Phoenix-area community college system for allegedly discriminating against non-citizens by requiring them to show extra paperwork before they could be hired.
The suit, filed against the Maricopa County Community College District on Monday, comes less than two months after the Justice Department sued Arizona over the state’s tough new law targeting illegal immigrants. Legal Immigration PAC which hosts the largest archive of information in
existence on the topics of border security and illegal immigration.
"We stand ready to defend our free political speech and the free speech

"RightHaven is suing ALIPAC over an article titled "'Latino Summit': (US

many Democrats are backing away from Reid's Amnesty legislation due to

Fake Poll Warnings: We are not alone! Tuesday, August 31 @ 14:17:06 EDT by admin (5625 reads) | Friends of ALIPAC and members of the American
media,
By now, many of you may have heard that both Fox News and CNN conducted
polls in the last thirty days with some surprising results. According to
the Fox News poll done via the firm Opinion Dynamics on August 10-11,
2010; a whopping 68% percent of Americans favor "giving illegal
immigrants who pay taxes and obey the law a second chance by allowing
them to live in the United States"!
Looks like FOX NEWS was following the lead of CNN when they released a
poll run by the Opinion Research Corporation on July 16-21, 2010
claiming that 81% percent of Americans favor "creating a program that
would allow illegal immigrants already living in the United States for a
number of years to stay and apply for US citizenship provided they are
employed and payback taxes."
Isn't that amazing everyone? An astounding 68%-81% percent of Americans
want illegal aliens to stay and become voters.
Not only are we scoffing at this flagrant abuse of the truth that should
be prosecutable as mass fraud, but so are the candidates for public
office that have run their own polls in their districts.
These fake polls are the best money can buy and they are designed to
confuse you, the candidates, and Congress.

Survey finds 70 percent support for deporting illegal immigrants Tuesday, August 31 @ 08:51:53 EDT by jamesw62 (625 reads) | A strong majority of American voters want
serious action taken to solve the illegal immigration problem –
including 53 percent who say children born to illegal immigrant parents
should not be automatic citizens, and 70% who say it’s important to
locate and deport those residing in the U.S. illegally – according to a
recent poll by Zogby International.
The poll was conducted August 20-23, surveyed 2,062 likely voters,
and asked: The Constitution provides that all children born in the U.S.
are automatically U.S. citizens regardless of their parents’ status.
Should Congress pass an amendment to prevent children born in the U.S.
from becoming citizens unless one of their parents is also a U.S.
citizen?
A majority of respondents, 53 percent, said Congress should pass a
law to prevent children born to non-citizen parents from being
automatic citizens, and 39 percent said no such law should be passed.
