Sessions Amendment To The Defense Bill

Is this the Defense Bill that I keep hearing they are going to try to attach the Dream Act to? If so, this could prove to be a little sticky for Sessions.

Senate Adopts Sessions' Missile Defense Amendment

    Thursday, July 12, 2007

WASHINGTON – By a vote of 90-5, the U.S. Senate adopted today an amendment to the defense authorization bill stating that the policy of the United States is to develop and deploy an effective defense system against the threat of an Iranian nuclear missile attack against the U.S. and European allies.

The amendment was offered by U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL).

“It is important that we acknowledge the growing threat to peace and security that arises from Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Iran’s government has continued developing weapons of increasing sophistication and range, in defiance of the international community’s requests. Iran’s government has openly declared hostilities on America, and we have traced explosives and weapons found in Iraq back to Iran,â€

I'll have to watch tomorrow to see what bill they are working on to see if it's the same one. Just in case.

I'm hopeful this doesn't pose a problem for Sen. Session's. Supposedly the Dream Act will require 60 votes for passage (that's a lot of votes).

Unfortunately, Sessions will probably vote favorably for the defense authorization bill, especially since his amendment is included. Heck, most Republicans will probably vote on the defense authorization bill anyway, unless the Democrats water it down beyond what the Republicans can support. We have to hope the Dream Act doesn't get the 60 votes it needs! We have to burn those phones up again folks. Failure to do so will give the impression that we really don't care about the Dream Act.

Right now, there are about 29 for and 29 against. That leaves 42 on the fence. They are:

Akaka, Allard, Bayh, Biden, Bingaman, Brown, Bownback, Burr, Cardin, Carper, Casey, Coleman, Conrad, Craigm Crapo, Dodd, Domenici, Dorgan, Feingold, Graham, Grassley, Gregg, Harkin, Hatch, Inouye, Johnson, Klobuchar, Kohl, Kyl, Lautenberg, Leahy, Levin, Lieberman, Lincoln, Lott, Lugar, McConnell, Mikulski, Murkowski, Pryor, Reed, Schumer, Smith, Snowe, Specter, Stabenow, Stevens, Voinovich, Warner, Webb, Whitehouse

We gave to get at least twelve out of this bunch, and it dies.

What's the source of your information? Unfortunately I see a lot of illegal immigrant supporters on your list of 42.
