Obama Purchases California Mansion To Go Along With His Two Other Homes
Obama Purchases California Mansion To Go Along With His Two Other Homes
Nov 25, 2016
When President Obama finally leaves the White House he won't have to go very far. About three miles to be exact. According to The New York Post,
"The Obamas are moving into a nine-bedroom mansion in the Kalorama section of Washington — the posh neighborhood of diplomats and DC old money — while younger daughter Sasha finishes high school at Sidwell Friends. But they have apparently been buying real estate elsewhere, too."
The Daily Mail notes, "The Obamas are reportedly leasing the house from Joe Lockhart, who served as press secretary to Bill Clinton. The home features plenty for the Obama's to brag about in D.C.'s hot real estate market. It has a gourmet kitchen featuring a six burner stove, according to an online database reviewed by Daily Mail Online. In case the Obamas have grown accustomed to having help around the house, there is a butler's pantry."
Yes, in addition to the $5.3 million 8 and a half baths home in D.C., Obama has purchased a multi-million dollar home in Rancho Mirage, California, a community known for its world-class golf courses. This will come in handy for the Golfer-in-Chief, who by January will have spent 270 days of presidency on the links.
No details on the home have been released so far but the Mail notes, "The news comes two years after it was reported that the Obamas were in escrow to to buy a $4.25million home in the community, but the White House denied the reports at the time."
The Obamas have also purchased a second vacation home in Hawaii, which some speculate is the famous Robin Masters Estate from the 80's hit show Magnum P.I.
According to Variety, the Obamas, "might be the ultimate beneficiary of an ocean front home in Hawaii that was purchased for $8.7 million via a corporate concern controlled by financier Marty Nesbitt, a frequent golf buddy of the outgoing president. For the record, Mister Nesbitt confirmed his purchase but said that he 'did not have any partners or co-investors' and the White House denied any connection between the president and the property, which was featured in the 1980s television series Magnum P.I.”
So if you're keeping count, that's three homes on three different coasts, on a salary of $400,000 a year, plus rent free living, 270 days of golf during 8 years in office, and leaving behind $20 trillion in National Debt.

Will Barack Obama take a page out of Gerald Ford’s post-presidential playbook and settle down in the easy living desert community of Rancho Mirage? According to the New York Post’s Page Six, that’s exactly what the outgoing president and his family plan to do—at least for part of the year.
Though the Obamas have already made plans to lease a nine-bedroom mansion in Washington, D.C. once the president leaves office, the gossip column reports that Obama has also purchased a new Southern California home not far from the Sunnylands Estate, where a long line of presidents have stayed over the years. Built by publisher and philanthropist Walter Annenberg and his wife Lenore, the A. Quincy Jones-designed estate has been called the West Coast Camp David, and most recently was the site of a series of meetings between Obama and Chinese President Xi Jingping.
Although the Post doesn’t appear to have many details on the president’s new home at present, the column notes that interior design work is likely to be completed by Michael S. Smith, whom the Obamas have previously commissioned to redecorate the White House.
In the past, the family has stayed with Smith and his partner, James Costos, at their home—also in Rancho Mirage. Obama appointed Costos, a former HBO executive, as the US Ambassador to Spain in 2013.
The Post also suggests the Obamas have purchased an additional residence in the president’s home state of Hawaii. With the family committed to staying in D.C. until youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school two years from now, it appears the Obamas are preparing for plenty of vacation time now that the city seems to be filling up with people hellbent on undoing pretty much every political action the president undertook during the last eight years.

The Obamas 'have bought a mansion at a California golf mecca as well as leasing a $4.3million DC home' for life after the White House

President-elect Trump isn't the only one thinking about splitting his time between two cities.
When President Obama leaves the White House this January, his family is expected to become bi-coastal, with homes in both DC and California.
Sources told the New York Post that the Obamas have purchased a home in Rancho Mirage, California.

Two years ago, the Obamas were reportedly in escrow to buy this home in Rancho Mirage - but the White House denied the reports
The Obamas are also leasing a $4.3million home in the Kalorama neighborhood of DC, which will be their main home - at least for the next two years.
The family is staying in DC so that their youngest daughter, 15-year-old Sasha, can finish high school at Sidwell Friends School.
Sources say that the president's new California home is in Rancho Mirage - a community known for its world-class golf courses.
No details on the home have been released so far. The news comes two years after it was reported that the Obamas were in escrow to to buy a $4.25million home in the community, but the White House denied the reports at the time.
Their new home is not far from Sunnylands, the former Annenberg estate, which has been used by presidents as an unofficial Camp David of the West Coast.
The town is also where President Gerald Ford retired.
Local newspaper the Desert Sun has been reporting about the Obamas' potential move for more than a year.
In September, the newspaper reported that Mrs Obama's plane was spotted at the Palm Springs International Airport.
At the time, it was unclear why the first lady was visiting the Coachella Valley.
In addition to their homes in DC and California, the family is said to have also purchased a vacation home in Hawaii, the president's home state.
The Post reports that interior designer Michael S. Smith is set to decorate both properties. He helped the Obamas decorate the White House and also owns a home in Rancho Mirage that the family has visited. He is the partner of James Costos, current ambassador to Spain and Andorra.
The 1928 home the Obama family is leasing in DC is 8,200-square-feet and features nine bedrooms and eight and a half baths.
The Obamas are reportedly leasing the house from Joe Lockhart, who served as press secretary to Bill Clinton.
The home features plenty for the Obama's to brag about in D.C.'s hot real estate market.
It has a gourmet kitchen featuring a six burner stove, according to an online database reviewed by Daily Mail Online.
In case the Obamas have grown accustomed to having help around the house, there is a butler's pantry.
A dining room with wood flooring can serve as an entertainment space, or a place for 'kitchen table' discussions about the family budget, now that Obama will no longer draw a government salary.
There's an upstairs office where Obama would be free to work on his memoirs, having already written two successful books.
There is a wet bar and a wine cellar.
Although Obama will have to give up 'the Beast,' he will maintain Secret Service protection. The home features two parking spaces, which could be tight, but may suffice.
The most appealing part of the home is its location, in one of the nation's priciest zip codes, and just a few minutes from DC attractions.
While the Obamas are looking at splitting their time between California and DC, President-elect Trump may continue to live at least part-time at Trump Tower in New York City.
Reports over the weekend suggested that soon-to-be first lady Melania and her son Barron would likely remain in New York City, at least through the school year.
Other rumors say that Trump could either commute daily to the White House from New York or fly home to Trump Tower for weekends - a potential move that critics are already calling a waste of taxpayer money.

Obamas are buying $4.25M desert home in California: report
Obamas are buying $4.25M desert home in California: report
The property lists for $4.25 million on www.realtor.com and is believed to be in escrow currently by the Obamas.
The Obamas are buying a $4.25 million hilltop hideaway near Palm Springs that boasts its own two-story waterfall and putting green, according to a published report.
Unidentified real estate sources told the Los Angeles Times that the First Family is in escrow on the custom-built compound in the ritzy Thunderbird Heights community of Rancho Mirage, Calif.
"This isn't true," a White House official told the Daily News Monday, shooting down the report.
Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby once owned homes in the exclusive gated enclave.
The 8,232-square-foot estate covers 3.29 private acres.
The home is located in the ritzy Thunderbird Heights community of Rancho Mirage, Calif.
70555 Thunderbird Mesa Drive in Rancho Mirage, California. The property lists for $4.25 million on www.realtor.com
and is believed to be in escrow currently by President Barack Obama and his wife, First Lady Michelle Obama.
The property was listed at $9.5 million in 2006, but had dropped to $4.25 million, accoridng to the listing website.
The centerpiece of the jaw-dropping desert property is a spacious, ultra-modern main house with four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms and a "master retreat" complete with gym, tanning and spa rooms, the property's online Realtor.com listing says.
A neighboring "casita" on the highly manicured, palm tree-dotted grounds offers three bedrooms and three baths.
Nestled against a bighorn sheep preserve, the 8,232-square-foot estate covers 3.29 private acres.
If the Obamas do move in, they'll enjoy a private rock-formed lagoon, stunning panoramic views and a misting system to help cope with the sweltering desert heat. (www.realtor.com)

If the Obamas do eventually move in, they'll also enjoy elevators, two spas, a private rock-formed lagoon, stunning panoramic views and a misting system to help cope with the sweltering desert heat.
And they would be following in the footsteps of former President Gerald R. Ford, who departed Washington for the same "playground of Presidents."
Attempts to reach listing agents Marc Lange and Carl Blea of HOM Sotheby's International were not immediately successful.
The Obamas, who are due to leave the White House after the 2016 election, previously spent a long Father's Day weekend in the Coachella Valley last month, staying at a house in the same Thunderbird Heights neighborhood.
The President also played golf at Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison's private course earlier in the year, according to reports.
The property was listed at $9.5 million in 2006, then again at $7 million in March 2013. It was reduced six times since early 2013 to its current price of $4.25 million, the listing website reveals.
