Dems' Inner Turmoil: Top Biden Supporter Calls Hillary PAC a 'Cult'

Not everyone is okay with many Democrats’ presumptions that Hillary Clinton is their only hope for 2016. One such person is Dick Harpootlian – the former South Carolina Democrat Party Chair and Joe Biden’s top supporter in the state – who had some harsh words for Clinton’s Super PAC, Ready for Hillary:
“Is it a political organization or a fan club for a boy band?…”I think it’s a cult, not a political movement,” Harpootlian added. “Ready for Hillary compared to who? The field still has to develop.”
South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn echoed those criticisms, stating that some Dems’ desire to catapult Clinton into the presidential nomination is a sign of “misplaced priorities” that will hurt the party in the grand scheme of things:
“The overemphasis and the time and energy spent on presidential politics at this juncture are misplaced,” Clyburn said. “You don’t deal with a structure from the top down in politics. In building any structure you have to build from the bottom up. I just wish that all of these people who spend all their time on presidential politics in 2016 would spend half that time on the governor’s race in 2014, and putting structure in place. I just think this is misplaced priorities.”
All of this bitterness and name-calling and intra-party turmoil so early into the race is a sign that we can expect more drama to follow. And while I don’t know how much of a chance Biden stands to beat out Clinton for his party’s nomination, I imagine we’ll be entertained watching him try to do so.
