U.S. Protests Cause Backlash on the Web

    'Anti-illegal alien mov't' gathering momentum

"Is your community becoming a Third World city?" is becoming one of the main concerns of the self proclaimed anti-illegal alien movement that has become more active ever since protests against unfair treatment of immigrants in the United States started last week.

On the Internet, sites like SaveOurState.org define themselves as a "non-profit organization committed to educating California's citizens about the disastrous effects of illegal immigration and creating positive change through aggressive activism and advocacy."

The movement claims illegal immigration undermines the "American way of life" as it damages American culture, language and society.

More and more well-respected academics in the United States argue their country is not a nation of immigrants.

They claim people who want to live and work in the U.S. illegally use the phrase to get more benefits from a country that is not their own.

Some even talk about a "Hispanic tsunami."

"The mantra 'a nation of immigrants' is an inaccurate branding of our current American culture and society. It is an incantation that contains substantial misinformation, some subtle, some blatant, which never seems to receive any scrutiny or debate," writes Daneen G. Peterson, Ph.D on the Web site Unitedpatriotsofamerica.com.

"A deluge of illegal aliens has defied our laws and sovereignty, balkanized our cities and towns, corrupted our unifying English language, culture and society, degraded our hospitals, schools and jails and caused reductions in our American quality of life, job opportunities and wages," Peterson adds.

Migrants living illegally in the United States are often labeled "goons."

A forum in a Web site entitled "Americans for Legal Immigration" has received a considerable amount of posts since last Friday commenting on the protests.

A user by the name of Bowman wrote: "I will personally send you back to Guatemala, where you can be all nice and legal."

"Hang in there, everyone. President Bush will save us," user LegalUSCITIZEN wrote.

President Bush's immigration policy consists of harder laws to enter the country and a guest-worker program.

    My response...

    Title: Backlash against Illegal Immigration

    Mr. Javier Espinoza:

After reading your article today, I would like to thank you for avoiding the biased trend that many writers employ calling many groups anti-immigrant or anti-immigration. Your article points out clearly that our group and many others are against illegal immigration and I thank you for that.

I would like to clear a few things up for you. One, the backlash is much larger and deeper than the Internet. Yes, our organization has received more new volunteers, contributions, and response in the last week than any week prior in our two years of existence. Most of our allied organizations report similar spikes in web traffic and support!

It is not just the Internet. Our phone has been ringing off the hook with distraught Americans that previously had no concept of the scale and scope of our illegal immigration crisis. Hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens marching down main street impersonating the Civil Rights movement has created quite a backlash. I am eagerly awaiting the next round of street protests by illegal aliens.

Much deeper than what you see on the Internet is the backlash in what is left of the Middle Class that is working too much to be on the Internet often and the American retirement community. Many of our retirees remember what this country was like before the Border was opened. Many are veterans and they are rapidly organizing to fight against illegal immigration.

The Open Borders Lobby may be able to put half a million to a million on the streets but America has over 100 million people that want the border secured, our current laws enforced, and illegal aliens deported. You will not see them on the streets waving flags and signs, but you will feel their presence in DC and at the ballot box this November.

The term "Goons" is not used merely to describe illegal aliens. We just call them "illegal aliens" The term Goon is used to describe illegal aliens or illegal alien supporters that protest. Many of these protesters have attacked our activists, hurled obscenities, etc... So the term Goon applies to illegal aliens getting in the face of Americans on the street and the anarchists, socialist, communists, and other radical elements that have latched on to the cause of the illegal aliens.

    Kind Regards,

    William Gheen

    1) Seems to me, that they should have at least have provided a link to our site if they are going to steal quotes from our members.

    2) Curious here...are our posts under some kind of a copyright?

No copyright. Anyone can quote anything they want from this site. That is why we have had to crack down and ban a few users around here that refuse to pause and consider how their comments can be used broadly before they post.

I always thought web forums were covered in any copyright. do you not have a copyright?

also william i believe the correct grammar use for commas would be like this: me, jim and shirley. not: me, jim, and shirley.

Perhaps that disclaimer should be posted more prominently, so those who are looking around these discussion boards for some negative comments to cherry pick for their pathetic little hit pieces might realize that ALIPAC is not responsible for what individuals post here?

Migrants living illegally in the United States are often labeled "goons."
I've been observing and posting on this topic for well over 10 years now in multiple forums and I don't honestly remember a migrant, illegal or otherwise, ever being labeled a "goon" simply because of being a migrant. Occasionally, individuals associated with violent and/or aggressive groups or actions have been labeled "goons", but that was solely due to their militant aggressive behavior, not their immigration status.

More and more well-respected academics in the United States argue their country is not a nation of immigrants.
I am glad that well-respected academics are finally catching up with what I've been saying all along. Thinking about that earlier today I realized that we became a so-called "nation of immigrants" relatively recently. If we were primarily defined as a nation of immigrants, then why didn't any of my grade school, high school, or college history textbooks ever say that we were a "nation of immigrants"? The King of England said no to more immigration to the colonies because he didn't want Indian wars, the founding fathers said preserving the new nation was more important than immigration, President Lincoln realized that a great nation was brought forth -- not immigrated to, in 1924 the Congress severely stifled immigration, in 1965 Ted Kennedy had to lie through his teeth to get that Immigration Act passed, in the 1970s we realized that quality of life meant population stabilization and that meant immigration control, in 1995 the Jordan Commission said the first responsibility of government was to stop illegal immigration, in 2006 the majority of the people realize that enough is enough. So, it seems to me that the "nation of immigrants" concept as it is being used today to justify massive and illegal immigration is little more than relatively recent OBL propaganda mantra and a tool for politicians that can't think. We are most importantly a nation and secondarily a nation that has historically and traditionally controlled immigration for the sake of the nation as well as the immigrants. Now if we can only prohibit pandering politicians passing pathetic poetry policy.

"Hang in there, everyone. President Bush will save us," user LegalUSCITIZEN wrote.
That had to have been taken out of context. Or, was Legal delusional that day?

IMO, the article was fair and informative, except for maybe the "goon" thing. I just wanted to whine some because I didn't get quoted.
