Trump will take most of South Carolina's delegates

    By Cheryl Segal

    Greg Nash

Donald Trump will win the majority of South Carolina’s 50 delegates thanks to his showing in Saturday's South Carolina primary.

The state awards 26 of its delegates for the overall winner of the election, plus three delegates per congressional district, for 21 delegates, and three Republican National Committee delegates. With 98 percent of the vote in, Trump has won all but two counties.
The two congressional districts that may be in question for Trump are the ones where Florida Sen. Marco Rubio won two of the three most populous counties in the state — Richland County, home to Columbia, the state's capital, and to Charleston County.

Whoever receives the most votes statewide Saturday will get 29 of the state’s 50 delegates — enough to take over first place.

Nationally, Donald Trump has a total of 17 delegates, ahead of Ted Cruz, with 11, and Marco Rubio, with 10.

South Carolina’s other 21 delegates will be divvied up three at a time, depending on who finishes first in each of the state’s seven congressional districts.

Going into South Carolina, Trump had 55 delegates, while Cruz had 11 delegates and Rubio had 10.

Candidates need 1,237 delegates to win the nomination.
