Immigration Courts Packed With Cronies
According to an analysis by the Washington Post, the Bush administration has increasingly packed immigration courts with unqualified judges who are political allies, against laws that define such conduct as illegal.

Since 2004, at least one third of the judges appointed by Ashcroft or Gonzales have had GOP or administration connections, while half had no immigration law experience. Two were failed candidates for the US Tax Court.

Immigration judges do not serve fixed terms. Each year they deport around 250,000 immigrants, who have no right to an attorney and limited rights to appeal. The original explanation for this conduct was 9/11 anti-terrorism protection.
