Just another day in Mexico, oops I meant California

Well my kids are in swim lessons at a very nice suburban high school
taught by Red Cross instructors. Just our luck a pipe burst and they
switched classes to a Hispanic named park which was the FIRST
indicator things were to go downhill fast.

As they participated in lessons I sat on a nearby bench
reading a novel. All of a sudden I hear shouts from the distance.
Children that have been there ALL morning are now crying on
a blanket saying "no, stop, no, no."

All of a sudden a Hispanic woman takes off running and her gang
banging boyfriend, baby daddy, husband or WHATEVER takes
off after her. He's tattood up and down his arms and is wearing
shorts that don't fit and a wife beater shirt. Well he YANKS her by the
hair and drags here where I can't see. The Red Cross instructors (
upper class sunny blonde haired youths who are not in
the least bit used to this craziness) stay back with the kids. My son
runs over to me and my daughter is crying begging me to leave.
I dial 911 and tell the operator to send the cops immediately. This
ladies kids are BEGGING the lifeguards to call the cops. The operator
asks me to stay and wait or to give her my number in case there
are any questions. I tell her no, I'm taking my kids out of there
ASAP and if they hurry up they'll catch the bastard.

By the way he kept yelling at her, "you gonna call the cops on me?"
He was quite familiar with the routine and probaby had a rap sheet
    as long as my leg.

What is up with these so called Hispanic men? Why do they get off beating
women and treating them like crap. I could tell this was an every
day occurence. Those kids are disposed to violence at a young
age and are very much used to this behavior.

California is going to hell on a non stop elevator. Can't wait to leave
    this place.

I don't know what it is with them either. It's bad enough without an entire group of people who see this as normal to contend with. One step forward 100 steps back.

There's no exact match for this word in English. AFAIK So we'll use the language of this culture.

Machismo is a noun of Spanish origin, and refers to a prominently exhibited or excessive masculinity. The word machismo—and its derivatives machista and macho, "he who espouses machismo"—comes from the Spanish word macho, meaning "male" or "manly". (The word macho literally translates as "male", but is applied primarily to animals in this sense.) In Spanish macho can sometimes mean "courageous" or "valorous", although machista rarely has such positive connotations.

As an attitude, machismo ranges from a personal sense of virility to a more extreme masculism. Many machistas also believe it is their right as men to seek extramarital adventures, although women are to remain faithful. Machistas believe that women were created to stay home and be mothers and wives. Thus, most machistas believe firmly in the superiority of men over women.

Some acts of domestic violence against women have been committed by men who consider themselves superior to women, whereby the doctrine of machista such violence may often be called appropriate or justified.
I see machismo as an attempt to display something on the outside that is non-existent on the inside of a person. A power grab by the powerless. Only Spanish women know for sure I suppose. They will assimilate in this respect. The women will demand it. Part of life in the good old USA.

Is it not amazing in our society that a wife beater ranks right in with a child molester. Only the low life white trash hit women. I am a man and I just don't get it. I truly don't, I had the pleasure of confronting one once (a wife beater) he wanted no part of fighting with a man.

Any man who beats a woman is scum!
Years ago when I was young I was part of a group in a rural area that helped women who were being beaten, when we got a call we would go over to her home and have a ..um, very serious discussion with the gentleman and explained to him the error of his ways. We were seldom called back twice.

No. Any woman who has married a guy like this knows. But you are right it is about having power ... or control, at least having the feeling that they are in control.

My own experience is my first husband (who happens to be hispanic) is this way. Trust me, there are worse things than getting hit. Thankfully, this attitude was not shared by my hispanic friends.
I don't care what you call me, so long as you call me AMERICAN.
