How Do illegal aliens manage to enter into our military ??

    Illegals enlisting in our military.....

I don't think it happens too often, but I believe that once GWB almost "bragged" about it one time, as though it was an admirable thing to do.

I've always felt differently about it, because I 've asked myself these questions:

    1. Do they have to "lie" again by answering questions falsely to our military who I would think REALLY NEED the truth from people who desire to serve in the U.S. military.

    2. Is our military that easy to infiltrate ?

    3. What if an illegal who is not really on our side got in for the purpose of doing something detrimental ?

I've asked a few more questions about this, but basically I wanted to know how they do it and Bush's opinion aside, how and what the American people really feel and think about this.

I remember when you had to pass physicals. Not to mention other things when there was a draft. Now it seems anyone that wants to sign up gets in!! There was an article about thousands accepted that had a diagnosed mental illness. I was shocked they allowed known gang members as well as all the illegal aliens!

When I was a recruiter, 1985-1990, anyone enlisting in the United States was required to be a U.S. citizen. I don't know what has changed, perhaps someone that has been a recruiter over the last few years will respond to your question. I know the U.S. military, during times of war, have enlisted non-citizens from other countries, but those enlistments happened in their country, not the U.S.A. Those members enlisted from allied countries were allowed to eventually gain U.S. citizenship. I don't really think we're enlisting illegal immigrants in the United States. I really don't think we're enlisting illegals in the United States, but if we are - I have a serious problem with that!

Me too, MW. I know I've heard about Americans lying about their age in order to get in at times of war, but they're American citizens.

But you'd think a person would get into a lot trouble for lying and telling the U.S. military that they're a U.S. citizen when they're not.

I don't THINK it happens often, but you'd think it wouldn't be able to happen EVER.

We were required to obtain a certified copy of every enlistees birth certificate (1985-1990).

I've researched this recently and the US military does not knowingly allow illegal aliens to enlist.

Besides US citizens, they will take resident aliens (green card holders).

Try a Google search on "military entry requirements".

Could an illegal get into the military with fake paperwork? Maybe, but I don't think they would get too far. I remember doing paperwork for my security clearance and was asked questions about parents dates and places of birth, etc.

I can't speak for all the military branches but when I was in the Air Force a resident alien could enlist but unless they became a citizen during their first enlistement, they could only serve the one 4 year enlistement, could not become an NCO and could not hold a security clearance.

    2. Citizenship
    a. To be eligible for enlistment in the Regular Army or
Air Force, an individual must be an American citizen, or lawfully
admitted to the United States for permanent residence (10 U.S.C.
3253 and 8253, reference. (a)). There is no equivalent statute
limiting enlistment in the Regular Navy and Marine Corps, but they
usually apply the same citizenship requirements as those required
for the Army and Air Force.
    b. To be eligible for enlistment in the Reserve
components, an individual must be a citizen of the United States
or lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence
    (10 U.S.C., 510, reference (a)).
    C. To be eligible for appointment as a commissioned or
warrant officer, U.S. citizenship is required except for Reserve
appointment where an individual must be lawfully admitted to the
United States for permanent residence (Sections 532 and 591 of
reference (a)). For regular appointment, when tendered, U.S.
citizenship is required. Law requires National Guard officers to
    be U.S. citizens (32 U.S.C., 313, reference (c)).
    http://airforce.custhelp.com/

Enlistment into the U.S. Air Force, or any branch of the U.S. military, by citizens of countries other than the United States is limited to those foreign nationals who are legally residing in the United States and possess an Immigrations and Naturalization Service Alien Registration Card (INS Form I-151/551 -- Commonly known as a "Green Card"). Applicants must be between 17 and 35; meet the mental, moral, and physical standards for enlistment; and must speak, read and write English fluently.
Note: The U.S. military branches cannot assist foreign nationals in obtaining admittance into the United States. Questions concerning immigration to the United States should be asked of the U.S. Embassy. Only after immigration procedures are completed and an applicant is legally residing in the United States may an application for enlistment be accepted.
Furthermore, in order to be commissioned an officer in the U.S. Air Force, one must be a native-born or naturalized United States citizen.

Okay ! So that explains it. Illegal aliens should NEVER under any circumstances be found in our military because they are not U.S. citizens nor have they entered the United States LAWFULLY.

Thank you everyone. Now I'll see if I hear of such a thing happening because it certainly SHOULD NOT.

Just like the President has an obligation to protect civilian citizens he certainly has an obligation to protect military citizens too, and it's important to all of us to know that they are being protected in this way, regarding the possibility of illegal aliens entering the military. I think that it is something that needs to be taken seriously, and talked about.

Thank you for answering many of my questions. I feel better knowing that the military would be a difficult place for an illegal alien to enter illegally.
