    state enforcment

Most of the police force of this country operates at the local level and local law enforcement knows the terrain and knows the local gossip. They are thus the ones in the best position to detect and arrest Illegals. The problem is that if they make an arrest, they can't deport , so they are stuck unless the ICE agents are willing to take custody and do the job. However as we have seen with Obama, the feds usually just let the Illegal go unless they happen to be a violent criminal. To correct this and to give the states more power, I have a very simple proposal. We should change the federal immigration law so local law enforcement has the power to arrest illegal aliens. In addition the law should require that the ICE dept. take custody of any Aliens that is deemed undesirable by a state for any reason. The ICE dept would then guarantee the state that the particular person handed over would never again set foot inside their boundaries. It would seem that a simple law of this nature would go a long way towards allowing states that don't want Illegals the power to get rid of them. Likewise, other states that are friendly to Illegals, could keep as many as they like.

Oh,were it so easy..problem being ICE does what the federal govt tells them to do,and what about the citizens who live in the states that turn a blind eye,or give sanctuary for illegals against the best interests or wishes of their citizens?

I agree that States should have more power over illegals and that ICE should help. Any step against illegal immigration is a step in the right direction.
