The Obama administration angered their opponents further on Thursday when it changed the U.S. government's deportation policy. The Homeland Security Department's immigration enforcement officials will undertake a case-by-case review of illegal immigrants who are facing deportations from the country, the White House announced.

"DHS (the Department of Homeland Security), along with the Department of Justice, will be reviewing the current deportation caseload to clear out low-priority cases on a case-by-case basis and make more room to deport people who have been convicted of crimes or pose a security risk," the White House said in an item posted on its web site.

White House Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Cecilia Munoz has already laid out entire classes of illegal aliens who will no longer be subject to enforcement. The plan entails dropping existing cases and taking "steps to keep low-priority cases out of the deportation pipeline in the first place," Munoz writes.

"Supporters of comprehensive and targeted amnesties for illegal aliens have consistently failed to win approval by Congress or gain support from the American public," said Dan Stein of FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform).

"Having failed in the legislative process, the Obama administration has simply decided to usurp Congress's constitutional authority and implement an amnesty program for millions of illegal aliens," Stein said.

Most of the news media are claiming that the policy change comes at a time when President Barack Obama is under increasing pressure from Hispanic groups who blast the president for having deported illegal immigrants.

However, Obama's opponents -- especially those working for the Border Patrol and in law enforcement -- claim the whole change in immigration policy is meant to seal his Latino voting base, especially those who are suspected of being legal or illegal aliens who are fraudulently voting in U.S. elections.

"This... [is] more of the 'wait until they kill, rape, beat or molest someone here in America, then we'll deport them' logic. Any victims want to step up to the plate so they can make sure an illegal alien becomes a "felon", making him deportable under the Obama and Napolitano rules? Brilliant strategy. They say they'll deport "gang members" as well. We all feel so much safer now. The illegal alien cheerleaders (Raul Grijalva, Luis Gutierrez, etc.) will love this new strategy. Those of us who actually have to put our lives on the line and enforce the laws? Not so much." according to a statement by National Border Patrol Council, Local 2544.

Several studies -- including one from the Heritage Foundation -- allege that because states are prohibited from asking voters for identification, there is nothing to stop them from voting.

The White House claims are more than 10 million people who are in the U.S. illegally, and a large number of them are Hispanics, a key voting bloc which helped send Obama into the White House in 2008. The president told Latinos that he was pursuing comprehensive immigration reform that would provide qualified illegal immigrants with a path to gain legal status.

However, Obama finds himself out of the mainstream on illegal alien amnesty. Most polls show an overwhelming majority of Republicans, Democrats and Independents oppose amnesty for Mexican illegal aliens.

Also, immigration law experts and law enforcement officials believe the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is closer to 20 million.

"How can there only be a '10 million illegal aliens' figure used year after year? According to the [Government Accountability Office] there are over 3.5 million illegal aliens classified as visa overstays. Are we supposed to believe that there are only 6.5 million illegal aliens who entered the country illegally?" asks former intelligence officer and police detective Ben Cardoza.

Immigration reform advocates are angry with the White House bypassing both houses of the U.S. Congress to create a de facto amnesty for illegal aliens. They also find it extraordinary that the Obama Justice Department is more interested in punishing states -- such as Arizona and Alabama -- that are enforcing immigration laws than in protecting American citizens' lives, property and birthrights.

ICE chief supports halting deportation of illegal aliens

Part of President Barack Obama's plan for eventual amnesty for illegal aliens was the appointment of immigration officials who would go along with stealth amnesty for illegal aliens as announced on Thursday, August 18.

The head of Immigration & Customs Enforcement, John Morton, is one who agrees with amnesty advocates to the point that his own ICE agents gave him an astounding 278-0 "No Confidence" vote.

Then the Obama Administration appointed a police chief, who believes in illegal alien sanctuary city policies, to command an immigration enforcement program that entails federal agents working with local police departments on cases involving illegal aliens.

As part of the Homeland Security Department's anti-terrorism mission, the new director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of State and Local Coordination is now Harold Hurtt, an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level such as Arizona's new immigration enforcement law.

"As police chief in two different cities with huge illegal alien populations—Phoenix and Houston—Hurtt enforced don’t-ask-don’t-tell immigration measures that prevented officers from inquiring about a suspects’ legal status in the U.S.," according to officials at Judicial Watch, a non-partisan, public-interest group that investigates public corruption.

In his post, Hurtt receives a salary $180,000 a year plus benefits to oversee outreach and communication between federal immigration staff and local law enforcement agencies. He is charged with strengthening the collaboration between local police and federal immigration officials in an effort to combat a crisis that has rocked practically every major U.S. city and many small municipalities, according to Judicial Watch officials.

Homeland Security officials are promoting Hurtt as “a respected member of the law enforcement communityâ€
