Tancredo urges victims' kin to sue Newark over policy

NEWARK — A lesser-known presidential candidate is urging the families of three young murder victims to consider suing Newark for negligence, saying the city's lax immigration policy is at least partially to blame for the execution-style slayings.
The candidate, conservative Republican Tom Tancredo of Colorado, brought his immigration-themed presidential campaign to the steps of City Hall on Monday, where he denounced the city's policy of not involving itself in immigration matters.
"I am encouraging the families of the victims to pursue the option of a lawsuit in light of this culpability," Tancredo said, criticizing Newark's status as a so-called "sanctuary city" for immigrants.
Newark, like many other cities including Los Angeles and Chicago, does not require police officers to check the immigration status of the people they arrest or to report illegals to federal authorities.
In the case of Jose Carranza, one of six suspects in the Newark killings, federal authorities were never told about the illegal Peruvian immigrant despite two prior brushes with the law. He was indicted twice this year on charges of child rape and aggravated assault, but was released on bail both times despite being in the country illegally.
Mayor Cory A. Booker, who has said involving city police in immigration matters would hurt relationships between police and the immigrant community, repeated that contention Monday.

Tancredo and others are all whining about how this is the Federal government's issue but yet they are provoking lawsuits of local governments who do not make up for the slack by the Federal government? Hey Tancredo, it's not the state's place to deal with this. Why should the state be legally responsible when it is the Constitutional duty for the Federal government to handle the border issue? You sound like Sharpton, Jackson, or some ambulance chasing trial lawyer trying to get anyone and everyone to sue over everything that happens. Read the Constitution Tancredo and stop being a media hog. If anything your level should be sued...since it is a Federal matter. But what can we expect from someone trying to get votes and earned media on someone else's tragedy.

Cory Booker is worried that increased vigilance would diminish the relationship the city has with the immigrant community????? Do illegal immigrants VOTE???? Are they allowed to VOTE??? The only immigrant who is allowed to vote is one who came here lawfully and then became naturalized. To say that you are worried about the relationship means your city has practiced an unwritten policy to harbor immigrants whose status is unlawful or unknown. The FEderal Government should fine them or sue them or do something to protect the people who are being murdered and raped and assaulted by people who are not being reported to DHS upon an indictment. This is why it is disconcerting to have Democrats in charge anywhere, anytime.I also do not agree with government through fear. But there has to be a reasonable middle ground here. And a good dose of common sense. To begin with after everything we have learned as a culture of people about the dangers of child rapists why would a judge allow this Carranza guy to go free on bail only to be indicted again for assault? What the heck was the bail set at and who ponied up the money?? The press should asking the questions along with Christopher Christie<div>''Life's tough......it's even tougher if you're stupid.''

Somebody has to start this ball rolling. These were good kids....this is happening all over......somebody has to be held accountable. Why is it Tancredo and not Jackson or Sharpton?
They call us "racist" but we were the first to stand up for the border patrol agents...."racists" and we're the first in line to defend other races....just like we've always said......we stand for the rule of law....period.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
