    Tar Heels need a leader

William stated a few days ago that many North Carolinians want a Minutemen chapter but no one has offered to lead it. I would gladly help in any way I can but do not know if I would make a decent leader for such a group. Does anyone know anyone that might be interested? Isn’t it about time we form a chapter? How would one go about forming one? What kind of projects could we do in NC to help our cause?

I would assume an NC chapter would take two roles.

1: Internal Vigellance. Watching day laborer spots and reporting businesses who hire illegals. Taking photos and logging the information. Making posters and displaying them in local cities, malls and shopping centers.

2: Action. Forming protest against businesses, government officals and supporters of day laborers. Making petitions. Educationg locals, churchs, schools and others about the dangers of illegal immigration.

Right now Mills I think everyone that can get down to the border is heading that way. An NC Chapter will be more likely to form after people return from the April operations.

If I were IN NC right now, I would be more than happy to try to tackle such a project but I'm not and I probably won't be there full time for at least another year. If there is nobody by then, I may jump in with both feet.

Excuse me for being ignorant about this topic. I am only here to do research on the issue so I can decide where I stand, but I have to ask one question:

How exactly would one detemine if an individual day laborer is an illegal? Is it not possible that some are legal and just looking for work?

And there's the rub, zaranie. I live in a town where most of the people are Hispanic. Many claim they are Americans yet they fly the Mexican flag and not the American flag. They won't speak English. So what am I supposed to think?

When I get home to NC, I'm going to just assume that anyone who is flying a mexican flag, anyone who has our lady of Guadelupe on the back window of their truck, anyone who can't or won't communicate in English is an illegal and worthy of my contempt.

That is why ALL employers should be required to use the Basic Pilot Program to verify a workers authorization. It's either a phone call or a few clicks of a mouse.

Day labor sites should be shut down. Labor Ready and others verify, that's where employers should go.

    ON CHAPTER ORGANIZATION

There are volunteers at the Minuteman headquarters all the time. Contact them and they will get in touch with you and start the ball rolling. I am surprised NC has not had a chapter yet.
Below are two URL's that have been put out by the organization. It is a newspaper ad that they would like to see in newspapers, but look to the bottom for contact info for the natonal headquarters.

Email this note to your local paper they can get a copy by clicking here:

If a high resolution version is needed for the paper click here:
