NEW YORK (Reuters) -Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, said on Friday he has started to send buses carrying migrants to New York City in an effort to push responsibility for border crossers to Democratic mayors and U.S. President Joe Biden, a Democrat.
The first bus arrived early on Friday at the city's Port Authority Bus Terminal in midtown Manhattan. Volunteers were putting groups of migrants in taxis headed to a nearby intake center, where they said some would be processed for admission to city homeless shelters.
Abbott, who is running for a third term as governor in November elections, has sent more than 6,000 migrants to Washington since April in a broader effort to combat illegal immigration and call out Biden for his more welcoming policies.
Abbott said New York City Mayor Eric Adams could provide services and housing for the new arrivals.
"I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief," Abbott said in a statement.

Load up buses full and drop them at Martha's Vineyard, Hampton's, and Delaware 24/7/365. Plenty of school parking lots, Churches, and medical facilities they can be dropped off at.

Issue them a blue tarp, they can sleep with the MILLIONS of our homeless American citizens in the gutter, along our freeways, in our parks. That is how our government treats our own Veteran's, seniors, and citizens who need help.

Disgusting that the swamp is embezzling billions of OUR tax dollars to pay for free bus rides, airplane rides, hotels, food, clothes, cash, school, medical care, daycare, for criminal trespassing illegal aliens who are not our citizens.

Texas collecting donations from public to help fund transportation costs of migrants sent to NYC, DC

The state of Texas is collecting donations from the public to help fund the transportation of migrants to Washington, D.C., and New York City.
Fight night: Eric Adams of New York versus Greg Abbott of Texas

"In the wake of President Biden’s decision to end Title 42 expulsions, Governor Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses to transport migrants to Washington, D.C. You can donate online now by credit card* or donate by mail by sending a check to the address below," a message reads on the website for the Office of the Governor.
The state has collected $118,297 as of July 22, according to the website for Gov. Greg Abbott’s office. Texas has been billed nearly $7 million from busing and security contractors as of mid-July, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.
The message from Gov. Greg Abbott’s office notes that unused donations will go to funding construction for a Texas border wall. The state is also collecting donations for that initiative, and has collected $55,334,747 as of July 22.

Abbott began sending buses of migrants to Washington, D.C., in April, after conservative leaders had threatened sending migrants to liberal cities and vacation hot spots as the crisis along the border continues.
More than 6,000 migrants have been bused to the city as of August, while the first buses of migrants to New York City began arriving last weekend. Abbott first called for private donations to be made to the transportation effort back in April, the Texas Tribune reported.
MORE MIGRANT BUSES ARRIVE IN NEW YORK CITY, DAYS AFTER MAYOR ERIC ADAMS SCOLDED TEXAS GOV. GREG ABBOTT
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has slammed the transportation of migrants to New York as "horrific," arguing that some migrants did not realize they were headed to New York City. NYC’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Manuel Castro has accused Abbott of being "morally corrupt," calling the busing of migrants to New York a "political ploy" aimed to "foment anti-immigrant sentiment."

"You cannot take the words of Governor Abbott seriously. He's demonstrated his moral character with these actions, and they're disgusting. We do know that people are arriving with a great amount of needs because of the treatment they've received in the state of Texas," Castro said outside The New York Times building in Manhattan last week. "Again, this must be condemned. This must be looked into. And our federal government will … take steps to hold them accountable."

Abbott said Friday that Texas "has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe" due to "President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies."

NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS BLASTS TEXAS GOV. GREG ABBOTT AFTER SECOND BUS OF MIGRANTS ARRIVES: ‘THIS IS HORRIFIC’
"What’s horrific is the thousands of illegal immigrants overrunning and overwhelming our border communities with populations smaller than a New York City borough, and Mayor Adams is hypocritically upset about welcoming a few dozen into his sanctuary city," Abbott Press Secretary Renae Eze told Fox News Digital last week.
"If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, he should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border—something the President continues failing to do," she added.
Conservative leaders in border states and across the country have slammed the president for his immigration policies, including ending the Trump administration’s "Remain in Mexico" policy, announcing an ultimately-failed plan to offer citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants at the start of his presidential tenure and loosening border enforcement policies, among other issues.
"As Mayors Adams and [Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser] recently acknowledged, the border crisis demands immediate and decisive federal action. I ask that they call on President Biden to stop dismissing this crisis and to honor his duty of preserving America’s national security," Abbott wrote in an opinion piece on Thursday for Fox News Digital.

NYC seeking 5,000 emergency shelter beds as Texas buses migrants north

    Anna Giaritelli - 2h ago

New York City is searching for 5,000 rooms to shelter thousands of migrants arriving in Manhattan on buses from Texas, according to city documents obtained by the Washington Examiner.
“Over the past few weeks, we have been working around the clock to step up and welcome asylum-seekers with open arms,” an NYC Department of Social Services spokesperson wrote in an email to the Washington Examiner Thursday. “As we previously announced, we’ve been procuring additional emergency shelter to serve this population, and this [request for proposal] is part of that effort.”
The city’s Department of Homeless Services previously requested housing from local organizations for 600 migrant families earlier this month, according to city documents.
"The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is seeking appropriately qualified vendor(s) to identify and operate units for the City Sanctuary Intake and City Sanctuary Facilities (“Facilities”) programs that will be used to house asylum seeking families and individuals in New York City," the city announcement states.

"The selected vendor(s) will procure and operate up to 5,000 units in Facilities such as commercial hotels or other similar facilities throughout NYC as outlined in the solicitation," the document states. "The population served by the selected vendor will be families with children, adult couples, and/or individual adults. Vendors can propose to either operate just the operational portion of the Facility, the service delivery requirements of the Facility, or both and should make this clear in their proposal."

The city has not indicated how much it is willing to spend or if it has fulfilled the request. The city’s immigration affairs, homeless services, and mayor’s offices did not answer requests for comment about how long migrants will be permitted to reside in temporary housing.
More than 4,000 migrants have been dropped off by buses that originated in Texas in recent weeks, which prompted first-term Democratic Mayor Eric Adams to request assistance from the federal government.
Illegal immigration at the southern border began to rise to historic highs last March. Federal law enforcement up and down the 2,000-mile southern border went from encountering fewer than 75,000 noncitizens in December 2020 to topping 150,000 (even 200,000) each month over the past year, according to federal data.
Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX), whose state has seen the most illegal crossings under President Joe Biden, announced in April that migrants would be offered free bus rides to Washington, D.C. The effort was meant to alleviate pressure on small border communities and regional transportation networks as several thousand people were released there daily.
Texas expanded the operation this summer, adding New York City to its list of destinations in an effort to put pressure on sanctuary city Democrats, especially Adams, to call on Biden to take action at the border.

The state of Texas is allowing the public to donate money to cover the millions of dollars it has spent busing illegal immigrants released from federal custody at the border to New York City and Washington, D.C. The state has collected $118,297 as of July 22, a drop in the bucket compared to the nearly $7 million Texas had received from busing and security contractors in mid-July.
Texas makes up 1,250 miles of the 2,000-mile southern border. More than half of the 1.9 million people apprehended trying to enter the United States illegally from Mexico between ports of entry since the start of fiscal year 2022 last October were stopped in Texas.

Border Patrol arrests suspected illegal immigrants wearing ghillie suits to blend into desert

    Louis Casiano,Bill Melugin - 2h ago

Three migrants attempting to sneak into the United States from Mexico took a page from a covert military handbook when they were recently found trying to blend in with the surrounding terrain to avoid detection.

Border Patrol agents in the agency's El Paso Sector arrested the three migrants, who were wearing ghillie suits as they allegedly snuck through the desert in southern New Mexico.

The gillie suit is a type of camouflage material used to blend into various natural environments such as the desert, snow and other types of terrain. They are mostly worn by military personnel, police and hunters.
Fox News has reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
SANCTUARY CITY POLICIES COME BACK TO HAUNT DC. NYC
Migrant encounters have become more common as the crisis at the southern border continues.
On Monday, the CBP announced there were 199,976 migrant encounters in July, making the total so far this fiscal year to 1.946 million encounters. However, sources told Fox News that the encounters have not surpassed 2 million.
At the end of 2020, migrant encounters were around 72,000 per month. By March 2021, after President Biden took office, that figure jumped to around 173,000 each month.
The Biden administration has noted that the number of encounters is inflated by recidivism due to Title 42 expulsions, whereby migrants who are quickly expelled under the order often make multiple crossing attempts. The administration has sought to end the order, implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but has so far been blocked by a court order. There were 162,792 unique encounters in July.
The number of migrants has prompted border states like Texas and Arizona to move migrants to Washington D.C., and New York City as a form of protest against the federal government.
Fox News' Adam Shaw and Griff Jenkins contributed to this report.

New York leads the country in population loss, and busing migrants to NYC is 'not going to help': Rep. Zeldin

    Fox Business - 9h ago

Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., addressed the migrant influx unraveling in NYC during an appearance on "Mornings with Maria" Wednesday, arguing the latest challenge "isn't going to help" the state's already declining population issue.

Republican nomination in congressional race too close to call

    View on Watch

REP. LEE ZELDIN: These border states, these border communities are desperate. And while you might see some footage come in of one busy morning into the Port Authority of New York, this is happening all day, every day inside of Texas and these other communities. So they're desperate and they feel like they're running out of options.

LEE ZELDIN ATTACK SUSPECT ARRESTED ON FEDERAL ASSAULT CHARGE

They need to get the attention of President Biden and the Democrats. So I don't know what else Governor Abbott really can do in this particular situation. He's doing this on behalf of constituents who are crying out to try to get the attention of this president and his allies. Now, the president could take action. The Biden administration could finish construction of the border wall. They can end catch-and-release. They can enforce the Remain-in-Mexico policy. They can start supporting our Customs and Border Patrol agents.

REP. MALLIOTAKIS INTRODUCES BILL TO HOLD NEW YORK, HOCHUL ACCOUNTABLE FOR LAX BAIL LAW AFTER LEE ZELDIN ATTACK

And also, you have these policies coming out of the Democratic Party at all levels of government that are incentivizing and rewarding illegal entry. Now, you see that inside of New York City and you see that inside of New York State as well. And here it's all boiling over because, you know, New York leads the entire country in population loss and this isn't going to help that situation.
