CD11 is the only Texas US House district that won't have a Democrat candidate in the November general election. Texas' CD9, CD16, CD20, CD25, and CD28 won't have a Republican candidate in the November general election.

Thank you for the wealth of information, as usual, political activist.

I am not from Texas, but I can see there are elections coming up there that will affect ALL of us. What can a person from another state do to help the right people get elected.?

Can you reccomend the candidates that ARE for tighter immigration standards?

I am afraid that our opposition is actively preparing their candidates to run in these positions. do you know anything about that? Are there candidates with ties to the open borders groups and Laraza/Lulac?
Is there still time to enter the race or are all entries finalized?

Why do you think there are so few new Anti-illegal alien candidates running against republicn representatives?

Mr Reyes and I cross pens constantly. How he can be FOR Amnesty yet FOR closing up the borders is a mystery to me but he actually is. His replies when questioned as to why he won't change his attitude toward amnesty, guest workers, etc. seem to imply that there is always something missing from the bills as they are written, yet he has yet to say exactly what is missing or write hs own version. Needless to say, I'm not overjoyed with Congressman Reyes's representation.

His latest correspondence was to tell me why he thinks the federal government needs to be worrying about what books people check out from the library! If the books are a threat to national security, I say get them to hell out of the library!

I know nothing about Jorge Artalejo, in fact I didn't even know he was running. There have been no TV ads as yet from either candidate but I notice old "Silver" spends a lot of time in front of the TV cameras lately. Something tells me that I'm going to be forced to either vote for Reyes or else write in a candidate. Are we allowed to write in votes for House candidates?

    From an FEC publication:

There are several ways you may support Federal candidates and political committees involved in Federal elections. These activities, however, are subject to the Federal campaign finance law. For example, the law limits the amount of money you may contribute and prohibits certain people and organizations from making contributions...

An individual may help candidates and committees by volunteering personal services. For example, you may want to take part in a voter drive or offer your skills to a political committee. Your services are not considered contributions as long as you are not paid by anyone. (If your services are compensated by someone other than the committee itself, the payment is considered a contribution by that person to the committee.)

But the Libertarian policy is OPEN BORDERS. It says it right on their web page. I can't vote for this guy because I do NOT want open borders.[/quote]

In Texas' 2004 general election US Representative Reyes had two opponents, one Republican and one Libertarian. This year it seems that there will be no Republican candidate for Texas' CD 16. There will also not be an independent candidate for Texas' CD16 this year. There could be a write-in candidate, however.

The filing period for Texan Congressional write-in candidates begins on July 30 and ends at "5:00 p.m. on August 29, 2006."

Ideally there should be a favorable Republican candidate to challenge US Representative Reyes in the November general election due to Reyes' voting record.

    "Write-in candidate."

    Quoting from "Primary challenge":

A primary challenge occurs in U.S. politics when an elected official is challenged in an upcoming primary election by a member of his own political party. Such events, known informally as "being primaried", are noteworthy and not frequent in the United States, as tradition dictates that members of a political party support officeholders of the same party, both for party unity and to minimize the possibility of loss of the seat to an opposing party.
In addition, officeholders are frequently seen as de facto leaders of their political party, eligible to establish policy and administer affairs as they see fit. A primary challenge thus interferes with this "spoil of office", and is largely discouraged.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_challenge

Number of incumbent, Republican US representatives who were candidates for the Republican nomination for a Congressional district in Texas' 2004 primary election: sixteen.

Of the sixteen twelve were unopposed in the primary; two had one primary opponent; two had two primary opponents.

PoliticalActivist, thank you for finding this information. Interesting, to say the least.

I realize Reyes has a horrible voting record. I would like to see him gone but I can't vote for someone whose entire party is against closing the borders. What a dilemma!

I think Tom Delay stands the greatest chance of losing. No doubt there's blood in the water.

Hi Politicalactivist, what about the independents and third parties. If eveyone votes in the primary, those people can not sign petitions for any third party or Independent that will really answer to the citizens of the USA.

I should say at least in Texas that is the way the majr parties have it set up through the election laws.
