    Huckabee "A Disaster" on Immigration...The WORST C

THERE SHOULD BE NO DOUBTS ABOUT HUCKABEE ANYMORE!

    Immigration group: Huckabee a 'disaster'
    By Stephen Dinan
    November 30, 2007

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who is up in the polls, is starting to take shots from his opponents on immigration.

Groups that support a crackdown on illegal aliens haven't settled on their champion in the race for the White House, but there's little doubt which Republican scares them most — former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

"He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor," said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, a group that played a major role in rallying the phone calls that helped defeat this year's Senate immigration bill. "Every time there was any enforcement in his state, he took the side of the illegal aliens."

As Mr. Huckabee rises in the polls, his opponents are beginning to take shots at him on immigration. Just as problematic for the former Arkansas governor, however, is that the independent interest groups that track the issue are also giving him the once-over, and don't like what they see.

"Huckabee is the guy who scares the heck out of me," said Peter Gadiel, president of 9-11 Families for a Secure America, a group instrumental in fighting for the REAL ID Act that sets federal standards for driver's licenses.

Some leaders said Mr. Huckabee reminds them of President Bush, who pushed for legalization of illegal aliens and a new supply of foreign guest workers, despite his base calling for better border security and enforcement.

I would say that Huckabee comes from the same perspective on the issue that George W. Bush came from — that out of a strong sense of compassion, he tries to identify with someone who comes to the United States, even if they came illegally," said Steven A. Camarota, research director for the Center for Immigration Studies.

Mr. Huckabee yesterday defended his record, but he said if voters are looking for the toughest guy, he's not their man.

"Is my answer satisfactory to all the Republicans? The answer's 'no.' " he said. "Some people want me to be a lot harsher. I think my answer is the honest and the right one.

Anyone who supports this man is an idiot. Sorry, but that's how I feel. I'm sick of hearing him try to frame the illegal immigration issue in terms of Christian kindness. One can feel compassion for others without tossing pragmatism out the window. The truth about Huckabee is that he is beholden to the agricultural lobbies and other corporate interests. He can't admit that, so he has tried to convince both Americans and himself that we have an humanitarian obligation to take in all who want to come here. If that's the only criteria for admission to the US, we have no defense against the whole planet descending upon us. The other night when I went to hear Lou Dobbs speak, he rhetorically asked why Americans don't question the preferential treatment given to Mexicans for admiission(mostly illegal) into the US. Why not Africans, Indonesians or Chinese?

The Republican candidates who oppose illegal immigration need to come down hard on Huckabee for his immigration record in Arkansas. It was barely touched on in the debate the other night. He was arrogant and childish on the issue, and when he got upset with legislators who opposed him he went to the media and called them "bigots" and "racists". He needs to be taken down. I can't believe he's been able to pull the wool over so many conservatives' eyes. The media seems to favor him, too.

Saki I'm in agreement with ya but you must know that the MSM no longer reflects the true sentiments of the American public. Right?

j/k with ya as I am sure you do.

Im a talk radio junkie and I heard that Huckabees stand on illegals is that
we should embrace them to make up for slavery! We already did that,
    dunce!

The scariest ticket I can see is Guliani/Huckabee. We would be in for the
fight of our lives if we are not already!!!!
    PROMOTE SELF DEPORTATION, ENFORCE OUR

Catslave....Huckabee's crazy remark about 'embracing illegals to makeg up for slavery' was by far the craziest thing ever said! I still can't believe he said it!

The other thing at the debate was when he said "They are ALL God's children"! What an idiot!!! Everyone is a child of God...Bin Ladin, Charles Manson, Sadaam Hussein, and even George Bush! What a stupid, stupid thing to say!

Yeah, and if we have learned from slavery we should learn that those who are driving the unethical cheap labor market should be punished. The modern day slave owners, the employers of illegals, should all be punished. That is how we "make up" for slavery. How is giving slave-owners another amnesty going to make up for slavery?

Two words sum up Knuckle-heads position: White guilt.
Serve Bush with his letter of resignation.

    See you at the signing!!

I find it hard to believe Tax Hikeabee will get beyond first base. He really makes my skin crawl... For that matter, so does McCain and Guliani. Those three candidates imparticular are the three who wish to rob our children of their futures, in favor of money, selfishness, greed... I can't even go on, I'm disgusted with them.

And it's too close to bedtime to even begin discussing the Democrats. Hitlery, Osama and Edwards will give me nightmares the entire weekend !
