TOPIC OF THE DAY: Illegal immigration

Officials fail to stem invasion

During the past six years, I've written many letters about illegal immigration. Why? The most serious problem facing our legal American citizens is the invasion of illegal immigrants. Why are we tolerating the continuing invasion of our Southern border by 10 million to 15 million aliens? There is no valid reason. Have we lost our minds in this era of international terrorism?

All levels of government have made no real effort to deal with this problem. This has encouraged advocates of this invasion to demand driver's licenses and, the latest, applications to become law enforcement officers.

The state and local governments have adopted a new policy: "Turn the other cheek." Other champions of illegal immigrants are suggesting signs of public information be printed in Spanish to accommodate the invaders. English is our national language.

The cost of educating the children of these lawbreakers is on the verge of bankrupting our smaller towns. Hospital emergency rooms serve as a vehicle for health care for illegal immigrants, creating havoc in our medical facilities.

Surely there are responsible public officials with the courage to address these problems. I appeal to all levels of government to move with dispatch to arrest this most serious problem threatening our country.
