Thread: Tossing a bone into this mix.

I live on dial-up so it is very hard for me to research things.
For those of you with dsl, broadband, or satellite, I am passing on this tidbit.
A number of months ago I read an article about the Supreme Court decision and education for illegals. If I recall correctly, in that decision there was something about "if it was proven that education for illegals" was an economic hardship, then the situation or case could be revisited.
Since this country is in such economic chaos, and if I really read that correctly, wouldn't this be a time to try to find that information and start pressing for "it is an economic hardship" for this country??
After all, California with the huge numbers of illegals is basically bankrupt. At $9000 and over for teaching each child per year, plus the costs of esl, this is outrageous. Think about it.

Wouldn't that be nice. However I think our elected officials will opt for just taxing us more, unfortunately. If the illegals left California the schools would be empty!!! Another nice thought.

The Plyler vs Doe Supreme Court decision which favored free education K-12 did indeed say that it had not been demonstrated that providing that education imposed a real hardship on the state. If it were possible to demonstrate that there was a hardship then it is theoretically possible to reverse the decision. There is political power posed against change away from Plyler vs Doe.

The idiots running this government are so scared of the whole illegal alien issue (due to political correctness), that they are willing to sink the whole country down over with it! That's why they are idiots!

One has to think ... If AMERICAN children were to get the monies being spent on Illegals... We could possibly have the smartest, BEST educated kids on the planet.
Right now here in South Dakota, our teachers are about the LOWEST paid in the Nation... And California wants a 7 Billion dollar HANDOUT?
I'm sorry... BUT there are times I wonder how much better off this country would be if it just broke off into the Pacific!!!

I would like Richard to expand on his comment about political power posed against change in the Plyler vs Doe re education of illegals so I can understand it better.
Education of illegal children is very, very expensive. At this time in our economic problems, I see education, health care, prisons, and now the mortgage subprime mess as costing billions and billions of dollars to the American taxpayer. I believe I have read that two states (Maryland and NC?? not sure..I read too much stuff here and around) that are trying to determine the educational costs of illegals.
If one really wants to fight the illegals, the costs of each and every benefit they receive per state has to be determined. Is such a thing possible??? Dollars count. Especially with what is happening now.
