Plug the hole that's letting illegals in!

Date published: 6/20/2007

I believe most people are missing the point when they're referring to illegal persons coming into the U.S.

These are neither illegal immigrants nor illegal aliens. Immigrants are people who come to the U.S. legally in order to have better opportunities. "Aliens" are people of an unknown origin. What we have are illegal entrants. They are just that--people who have entered this country illegally.

Here's an example. Someone who enters your home illegally is charged with illegal entry and therefore is an illegal entrant. The same term should apply to those who enter this country illegally.

Many people are supportive of the illegal entrants for taking low-paying jobs. What they fail to realize is that the cost of health care, social services, and education cost the American consumer far more in the long run.

The illegal entrant situation was one of my main campaign issues when I was an Independent candidate for U.S. Congress in 2006. I was the only candidate in Virginia to sign the "America First Contract," which stated that upon taking office I would initiate/support legislation to stop the flow of illegals into our country. Press releases were sent to various newspapers, but no paper was interested. No one wanted to address the illegal problem publicly.

Something has to be done to stop the flow of illegal entrants into this country. As the old adage goes, when you are in a boat that is rapidly filling with water, what is your first priority--to bail water or stop the leak?

The answer is obvious; we need to stop the leak of illegal entrants from entering our country. We need legislators with the guts to tackle the issue head-on and not worry about being politically correct.
