    Our Cuba Policy

Obama thinks this policy towards cubans is bad:
Most Cubans in the U.S. can only visit the island once every three years and can only send quarterly remittances of up to $300 per household to immediate family members. Previously, they could visit once a year and send up to $3,000. The U.S. also tightened restrictions on travel for educational and religious groups.
I kinda like it... I think we should expand it to Mexico and Guatemala too.

The embargo on Cuba is useless. The political leaders in Cuba haven't felt it nearly as much as regular Cubans have.

imagine how fewer people would illegally enter from mexico if the amount of money they could send back was cut off?

    1. The point of the Trading with the Enemy Act, Helms-Burton, and other related legislation is not to increase tax revenue to the American economy. The objective is to contain the overseas aggression of our primary enemy in the Western Hemisphere, which leads me to point #

    2. Whether or not the Castro regime survives is immaterial at this point. The point was to prevent Castro from Sovietizing the rest of the Western Hemisphere, which we were pretty successful at before the arrival of Chavez and the appeaseniks in the Clinton administration, not to "get rid of" Castro and his despotic, Communist clique.

    3. IT IS NOT AN EMBARGO! This is a myth perpetuated by the Fidelistas-and unfortunately, accepted by too many otherwise logical, patriotic Americans. We had an embargo against South Africa-pre-ANC-and against Yugoslavia. Allowing visitations-some on the flimsiest of pretexts-remitances and refusing third party boycotts against nations that do business with Cuba's noxioux regime, i.e. every other nation on the planet, does not constitute an embargo.

    4. The fact that Cuba's economy-although not its citizenry-is surviving is testament to the laxity of our sanctions, which allow Cuban exiles to funnel millions of dollars back to their homeland annually.

    Sick ..........

As a Cuban hits land (Wet foot / Dry foot) policy is enacted. This is a policy that was used to mellow the cubans in Miami and needs to be abolished. It has turned Miami into a third world country.

Cubans try to be immeadiatly arrested so they may be processed, so they may legally start recieving all of the social program goodies the US has to offer in addition to 10,000.00 to get started off on the right foot.

Can someone please tell me how I can get status as a Cuban so I can illegally invade our country, get the social programs and lord knows I could use the 10,000.00 dollars

The Wet Foot/Dry Foot policy wasn't done to court the Cuban vote-most of which went against Clinton in both elections, although not to the same degree as his predecessors in the Dem. Party-but to prevent Castro from flooding this country with another thousand Marielitos and embarrassing Clinton before an election.

Clinton-learning the lesson of 1980, where he lost a gubernatorial reelection campaign because of Mr. Peanut's credulity-allowed Fidel to roll him and enacted that idiotic policy.

The pre-existing law was more-not less-generous to Cubans who entered this country.

Not sure the wet/foot, dry/foot policy wasn't put in place to mollify the Cubans in Florida. There might have been other reasons, but they have quite a bit of clout - and money, it seems.

No one wants communism spread in America - yet we have this policy against Cuba, but are making China THE world's power - in every way. We are going to grant China almost unlimited access to this country.

Wonder if the reaction to Cuba would have been different if they had had millions of people they would be willing to put into sweatshops making cheap geegaws for American corporations?

Just wonder if we would have 'normalized' relations a long time ago?

How in the world is this enforced? We have 12-20 million people in the country illegally and we are going to devote personnel to monitor how many money orders each Cuban is sending home?

It is this type of thing that is causing our country to lose its credibility and respect. Congress should stop passing laws that have no enforcement remedy.

I still can't understand our fight with the Russians over 30 or so years with the Cold War and Communism, but if it was to rid the world of Communism I hate to inform the US government that we had a Commie country about a hundred miles off the Florida shore!!! Why did we keep Cuba the way it is? Why didn't we turn it into another resort? Is there a secret agenda?
