Gowdy to campaign for Rubio in Iowa

South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy will campaign with Sen. Marco Rubio next week in a boost for the Rubio, who has emerged as the front-runner among candidates acceptable to Republican party leaders.
Gowdy, an articulate former prosecutor popular among conservatives for leading a special House committee investigating the 2012 terror attack in Benghazi, Libya, will join Rubio in Iowa.


"Marco is a rock solid conservative and a strong leader we can trust. I look forward to campaigning with him, and introducing my good friend to voters across the state," Gowdy said in a statement Rubio's campaign released.


Rubio's campaign said Gowdy will join the Florida senator on a three-day trip that includes events in Burlington, Clinton and Waterloo, Iowa on Tuesday and Wednesday.


While Gowdy has not explicity endorsed Rubio, his decision to join the senator as he campaigns against Republican primary opponents in Iowa is effectively an endorsement of Rubio's candidacy.
