Has anyone done a refi lateley? or new mortage?

    This is interesting

I am shopping around for a new mortgage and it seems at the
end of all the questions , this one comes up and I'm told
it is required by the US govt

1 ARE YOU HISPANIC OR LATINO ?

You can say yes , no or prefere not to answer
but if you don't answer on the app, the loan officer has
to include their own observation if there is an actual loan

    Whats up with this?

I refi'ed my second with Chase about two months ago. I've never had to answer an ethnic/racial question, to my recollection. Did I miss this?

We just closed on a house the end of December. We never answered that question, but we applied in person.

Just a warning when getting any kind of mortgage, selling your house, or buying a new one. Many title companies have now outsourced the title searches and exams for your title insurance policies. The information you give in order for this to be done could be going to either India or the Philippines. Stewart title is the only confirmed major US title company who has yet to outsource that I know of. I would ask direct questions before filling out an SI (statement of information) for a title company. Who knows what information they bundle and sell from the new plants overseas.

I would give you a link to this, but my info regarding A huge title corporation with America in its name came with my pink slip when my job was outsourced. The rest of the info came from a number of title officers and examiners, from various companies, looking for work and sharing info about companies.

edited to erase the name of my former employer. In todays world I could probably be sued for telling the truth

I filled out an unemployment application on a computer screen a month ago which had a click box for "Hispanic/Not Hispanic". Why are government employees collecting this information? I wanted to refuse but then I would have been denied benefits.

I think the government must be doing something for Hispanics in secret so the general population doesn't know.

WHEN YOU ASK THAT QUESTION, DO YOU THINK THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO TAKE AN ACTUAL COUNT OF HISPANICS ALREADY HERE?
