Trump: Border Patrol Support Key for Building Wall

    Monday, May 30, 2016 03:51 PM
    By: Brian Freeman

Donald Trump thanked the Border Patrol agents union for its endorsement of his presidential bid, calling it a key sign of support for his plans to build a wall on the Mexican border.

In a series of tweets, the presumptive Republican nominee stressed that the union's backing of his candidacy shows that the construction of the wall will be of vital importance in defending U.S. borders.

In getting the endorsement of the 16,500 Border Patrol Agents (thank you), the statement was made that the WALL was very necessary!
    4:00 AM - 30 May 2016

The wall has been a centerpiece of Trump's anti-immigration proposals during the campaign.

On Sunday, at the Rolling Thunder motorcycle rally in Washington, D.C., Trump reiterated his promise to build the wall and have the Mexicans pay for it.

When the Border Patrol agents union backed Trump in March, it was the first time the 16,500-strong group had ever endorsed a presidential candidate in the primaries

Their statement of support reflected both the desire for security and the anti-establishment attitude prevalent throughout much of American society.

"If we do not secure our borders, American communities will continue to suffer at the hands of gangs, cartels and violent criminals preying on the innocent," the statement read. "We don't need a person who has the perfect Washington-approved tone, and certainly NOT another establishment politician in the White House. Indeed, the fact that people are more upset about Mr. Trump's tone than about the destruction wrought by open borders tells us everything we need to know about the corruption in Washington."

This is why someone like Sen. Jeff Sessions should be DHS Secretary, instead of chosen as a running mate. IMO, he should pick a VP runner who has broad appeal, and few enemies----especially someone who could get Bernie supporters.

That is an interesting idea. A VP Running mate who could draw more of Bernie's supporters(or democrat voters in general). I can't help think how there used to be democrat congressmen who had A ratings from NumbersUSA, but they've all been booted out of the democrat party. Maybe get one of them to run as Trump's VP? One that comes to mind is former congressman Gene Taylor. He was one of the most conservative democrats in the house of representatives and agrees with many of Trump's policy positions and has a lot of political experience. He also had an A rating from the NRA. Perhaps he might be a little too conservative to draw Bernie supporters, but at least he would not upset the republican base too much, which is a risk that you run into if you choose someone liberal enough to draw Bernie supporters in large numbers. I don't think they would be able to criticize Taylor as a liberal. This is a link to a NumbersUSA page which mentions his rating there https://www.numbersusa.org/content/n...mocratic-incum
As to Jeff Sessions, I would like to see him as the new Senate majority leader, replacing McConnell. Maybe put DML in as the new head of DHS to replace Jeh Johnson.

It seems like Sessions has personally adopted the immigration/homeland security issue as his forte, so I think he would handle it very well. And he is not arrogant or offensive as well---very much the level headed worker-type. Which also tends to work against him attracting a lot of emotionally charged voters--which is what the Sanders supporters tend to be. I would probably even support Sanders were it not for a couple of issues.

Because the US Senate races are also very critical this year I think Trump needs a diplomatic and popular running mate. Kasich has the responsible, paternal image and persona---but would probably set off a firestorm with the tea partiers. Jason Chaffetz?

Chaffetz wouldn't be a good choice, here is why http://www.alipac.us/f34/jason-chaff...aliens-311751/
