Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said, “we have a lot of really good people. They’re illegal. Now, you either have a country or not. We go out, and we’re going to try and bring them back rapidly, the good ones,” and “the good people are going to be able to come back, but they’re going to come back legally” in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” new portions of which were broadcast on Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart.”

Trump stated that Mexico has to pay for a border fence, illegal immigrants in the US “have to go,” and called for an end to birthright citizenship. He added, “when we have some good people, we have some very good people here, we have a lot of really good people. They’re illegal. Now, you either have a country or not. We go out, and we’re going to try and bring them back rapidly, the good ones. Rapidly. You know the word ‘expedited’?”

Trump also said he would rescind the president’s executive actions on immigration. When asked about the cost of his plans, he responded, “Look at the cost of what we have right now.” And pointed to the “tremendous” cost of and crimes committed by illegal immigrants right now before adding, “we will do it, and we will expedite it so people can come back in.
The good people can come back in.”

He later stated, “the good people are going to be able to come back, but they’re going to come back legally. We have to have a country. We have to have a great country. Also, I want to bring people that are going to really help us, not all at the low end.

We have to bring people that — and I’ve been hearing more and more of this. We have to bring people that are university — you know, go to universities, that are doctors.” And “As far as immigration’s concerned, we need the wall. We want people to come in. I want people to come in. They have to be wonderful people, they have to come in legally. You know, if you’re in Mexico, it’s almost impossible to become a citizen of Mexico.

And yet us, we just — they just walk across the border.”

Expediting the legalization of illegal immigrants is bringing them to the front of the line. Make no mistake about it, this is a form of amnesty and it is a reward. I do not believe our current immigration laws allow a deported illegal to immediately apply for re-entry.

That's right, our laws don't allow it. Focus on the headline "try". Ha! Riiiight. Also, note his definition of "good" ones are those in "university" and "doctors", that people are telling him are "good" ones. He doesn't want the "low end". So he's talking about the student and other types of visa overstays. They are illegal aliens, but came here with permission. From I read into this, a few of these are the ones he has been told are "good ones".

But, I'm with you on this, MW. I don't want the ones who are in "university" or the "doctors". They should have left when they were supposed to. However unlike you, I'm not going to use this aspect as a reason to dump on Trump and oppose the rest of his plan which is the best plan so far that's ever been presented to the American People in a Presidential race since I've been old enough to vote.

So very sad to hear Donald Trump talk like this. If he wants to be President of America he should not be saying anything that is encouraging to illegal aliens and those that hire them at all! Politicians encouraging illegals is why so many are here in the first place!!

I totally agree and wish he would stop it. There's no point to it. Once they're out, they will not be coming back.

Trump wants to bring them back and give them more American jobs, like these.

11,000 Mexicans with doctoral degrees reside and work in the United States.

This is the point. I don't feel Trump is a fool but he knows how to play the game. To many idiots out there who buy into the whole *we can't break up the families* thing and expect some exception for those with citizen spouses and kids with anchor baby citizenship. Trump knows though I think that once they are out that IF their was a bar to pass and if it was set semi low even the vast majority couldn't make it and wouldn't ever be coming back. Once they are out 99% of them will remain out and w/o benefits to come back to many wouldn't even want to come back. After all how *great* would it be for many of these illegal aliens if they no longer got a free ride, no benefits other then work and w/o an education working the very bottom jobs barely able to survive with as high of prices as we have in the US.

They can't. Only congress can change that. Trump could be saying this simply to not sound OVERLY harsh. I mean if he says ALL illegal aliens are being deported and the can NEVER come back some people could demonize him.

He is still tougher on immigration than ANY other candidate. Walker has collapsed and Santorum has as much chance for the nomination as the easter bunny!
