Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said, “we have a lot of really good people. They’re illegal. Now, you either have a country or not. We go out, and we’re going to try and bring them back rapidly, the good ones,” and “the good people are going to be able to come back, but they’re going to come back legally” in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” new portions of which were broadcast on Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Rundown with Jose Diaz-Balart.”

Trump stated that Mexico has to pay for a border fence, illegal immigrants in the US “have to go,” and called for an end to birthright citizenship. He added, “when we have some good people, we have some very good people here, we have a lot of really good people. They’re illegal. Now, you either have a country or not. We go out, and we’re going to try and bring them back rapidly, the good ones. Rapidly. You know the word ‘expedited’?”

Trump also said he would rescind the president’s executive actions on immigration. When asked about the cost of his plans, he responded, “Look at the cost of what we have right now.” And pointed to the “tremendous” cost of and crimes committed by illegal immigrants right now before adding, “we will do it, and we will expedite it so people can come back in.
The good people can come back in.”

He later stated, “the good people are going to be able to come back, but they’re going to come back legally. We have to have a country. We have to have a great country. Also, I want to bring people that are going to really help us, not all at the low end.

We have to bring people that — and I’ve been hearing more and more of this. We have to bring people that are university — you know, go to universities, that are doctors.” And “As far as immigration’s concerned, we need the wall. We want people to come in. I want people to come in. They have to be wonderful people, they have to come in legally. You know, if you’re in Mexico, it’s almost impossible to become a citizen of Mexico.

And yet us, we just — they just walk across the border.”

Expediting the legalization of illegal immigrants is bringing them to the front of the line. Make no mistake about it, this is a form of amnesty and it is a reward. I do not believe our current immigration laws allow a deported illegal to immediately apply for re-entry.

That's right, our laws don't allow it. Focus on the headline "try". Ha! Riiiight. Also, note his definition of "good" ones are those in "university" and "doctors", that people are telling him are "good" ones. He doesn't want the "low end". So he's talking about the student and other types of visa overstays. They are illegal aliens, but came here with permission. From I read into this, a few of these are the ones he has been told are "good ones".

But, I'm with you on this, MW. I don't want the ones who are in "university" or the "doctors". They should have left when they were supposed to. However unlike you, I'm not going to use this aspect as a reason to dump on Trump and oppose the rest of his plan which is the best plan so far that's ever been presented to the American People in a Presidential race since I've been old enough to vote.

So very sad to hear Donald Trump talk like this. If he wants to be President of America he should not be saying anything that is encouraging to illegal aliens and those that hire them at all! Politicians encouraging illegals is why so many are here in the first place!!

I believe those are mostly if not all legal immigrants here on visas or green cards. But Trump needs to distinguish between those who are here legally and those who are not. Those who aren't need to be deported with no chance of re-entry.

I don't care if they are legal.

Donald Trump wants to deport all immigrants in the United States illegally and then grant the “good ones” an expedited pathway to legal status, he told CNN in an interview.

“I would get people out and have an expedited way to get them into the country so they can be legal,” the GOP presidential candidate said, according to CNN.

“We got to move 'em out, we're going to move 'em back in if they're really good people.”When pushed by CNN’s Dana Bash to explain how he would identify and deport the estimated 11 million immigrants in the country illegally, Trump wouldn’t give any specifics but ensured that it was possible.

“Politicians aren't going to find them because they have no clue. We will find them, we will get them out,” he said.

“It's feasible if you know how to manage. Politicians don't know how to manage.”

Trump provided the initial glimpse of his immigration plan as he continues to be dogged by controversial comments he made at his presidential announcement, where he referred to some Mexican immigrants as “rapists.”

He’s pushed back against condemnation over it and made immigration a centerpiece of his campaign, highlighting recent killings of Americans by undocumented immigrants and traveling to the Texas-Mexico border. He also proclaimed that he would “win the Latino vote,” though a recent Univision poll found that 71 percent of Hispanics view him unfavorably.

Unfortunately this sounds just like the touch back amnesty plan that was floated years ago.

This is why it is so important that ALIPAC focuses Americans on electing a Congress that will 1. Back all the good provisions in the Trump immigration plan while 2. Refusing to allow him to bring illegal aliens he feels are "good people" back into America which would require both changing existing punitive laws prohibiting illegals from applying for legal entry and raising legal immigration levels by many factors.

Your interview was on July 30th with CNN, more than 2 weeks before Trump consulted with Sessions and released his immigration plan. I'm sure he'll add to it after he gets feedback, comments and responses which I expect will be "get them out and keep them out".

They can't. Only congress can change that. Trump could be saying this simply to not sound OVERLY harsh. I mean if he says ALL illegal aliens are being deported and the can NEVER come back some people could demonize him.

He is still tougher on immigration than ANY other candidate. Walker has collapsed and Santorum has as much chance for the nomination as the easter bunny!

This is the point. I don't feel Trump is a fool but he knows how to play the game. To many idiots out there who buy into the whole *we can't break up the families* thing and expect some exception for those with citizen spouses and kids with anchor baby citizenship. Trump knows though I think that once they are out that IF their was a bar to pass and if it was set semi low even the vast majority couldn't make it and wouldn't ever be coming back. Once they are out 99% of them will remain out and w/o benefits to come back to many wouldn't even want to come back. After all how *great* would it be for many of these illegal aliens if they no longer got a free ride, no benefits other then work and w/o an education working the very bottom jobs barely able to survive with as high of prices as we have in the US.

Well, the article didn't go anywhere at AEI, so I doubt Trump's even seen it. It only had 8 comments and then they closed comments.

According to your article, Trump discussed his plan in the Fox News Debate the Tuesday before Thiessen wrote this article, that 20 million or more people watched. Trump Supporters know exactly what his plans are and are not. To think otherwise, is very foolish. Trump is the most covered candidate in the race with more exposure, more information, more videos, more tapes, more articles than any candidate in the race. There is no shortage of information about Donald Trump's plans or intentions.

Every Trump supporter knows exactly what he's going to do with regards to illegal immigration. He's going to deport illegal aliens within 2 years. He's going to build a wall to keep them out. Whatever happens to them after that is a totally separate issue. There is no linkage, no law that binds, no law that applies other than what's on the books today that says they can apply for re-entry after 10 years.

Any action that would allow them to come back in sooner than that would require new legislation which Trump has not proposed and is not part of his immigration plan.

No, it's not a totally separate issue. What good is it to deport 20 million if you're going to turn around and allow 15 million to return under and expedited process. Yes, Trump has said he will fix it so that will happen. If you trust him on all other things, you must also trust him on this.

Who said Trump was going to let 15 million come back in legally? Under US law, he can't even do that. Under his immigration plan posted on his website, he has no plan to do so.

Donald Trump opened a new front in his incipient war on Ted Cruz late on Wednesday, accusing the Texas senator of supporting “amnesty” for immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

“Ted was in favor of amnesty,” Trump told host Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”



“Him and Marco Rubio have been fighting about who’s weaker,” he continued after Blitzer noted Cruz’s claim that he was stronger than the real-estate mogul on immigration issues.

Trump went on to knock Cruz for “taking my idea for the wall,” repeating a complaint he has aired every day this week.
“I’m glad he’s taking my idea. I think it’s the right thing to do,” Trump went on. “These people who are politicians don’t know how to build walls. They don’t know how to build anything.”

“All of a sudden, they’re trying to get into my territory,” Trump groused.

The exchange comes on a day of political news dominated by Trump’s suggestion that Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother, may not be legally eligible to be president.

Cruz scoffed at the implication, dismissing the flap as a “silly circus sideshow debate about things that are not consequential” and citing legal scholarship finding that children of U.S. citizens born abroad qualify as “natural born citizens” under most interpretations of the Constitution.

But Cruz found a way to strike back at Trump later in the day, telling ABC News “my record is stronger than his” and highlighting his “proven record as a fiscal conservative, as a social conservative, as a national security conservative” — drawing an implicit contrast to Trump’s past liberal leanings.

In December, under fire from Rubio, Cruz denied ever supporting citizenship for immigrants in the country illegally.

“My position is very simple: I oppose amnesty. I oppose citizenship. I oppose legalization … Today, tomorrow, forever.

I believe in the rule of law,” he said.

Cruz has since sought to outflank his GOP rivals on the issue, playing up his support from immigration hard-liners such as Iowa Rep. Steve King and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions and firing off attacks of his own.

“Look, there’s a difference,” he told a reporter in Iowa on Tuesday, referring to Trump. “He’s advocated allowing folks to come back in and become citizens. I oppose that.”

They can't just sneak out the way they came in and make such a claim from the other side of the border. We need to police migrant traffic in both directions across our borders. Hmm, so you actually support the expedited return of the so-called good illegals? You do realize that would be amnesty, don't you? To expedite the return of anyone would mean moving them to the front of the line. For me and many others who strongly oppose amnesty, the expedited return of illegals is not acceptable.

It a whacky idea. They all need to go starting with the most dangerous day one and work your way back. Sen. Sessions would be instrumental in organizing this effort. Not sure why Chris Christie is heading up transition team, he is despised in NJ and NJ'eans don't want to see him anywhere near Trump or NJ for that matter. He is no different on illegal immigration than Hillary and quite frankly his proximity to Trump alarms me a bit with respect to illegal immigration.

They all need to go, Right O. Starting with every single one that can be found, regardless of dangerosity.
