Thread: Trump open to "comprehensive immigration reform"??

Please, no amnesty. Nothing comprehensive works out for the American people. It is always full of loopholes. Just enforce our laws.

Any encounter with law enforcement should lead to deportation. Cut off benefits. Charge the IRS and the Social Security Administration to work together to identify fraud, stolen social security numbers and charge those illegal aliens.

The reporters are at it again.

President Trump didn't quite say this week that he is ready to get behind the "Gang of Eight" immigration bill, despite suggestions to the contrary. As it turns out, the actual facts of the matter are a bit more boring than journalists made it sound Thursday afternoon.

This particular overhyped news cycle originates with Politico's Seung Min Kim, who tweeted at 2:42 pm:

Her supposed scoop soon bounced all over social media, as reporters in competing newsrooms quickly shared her note, attaching the usual breathy, hyperventilating commentary.



However, as is the case with an increasing number of these supposed Trump scoops, details of what actually happened soon surfaced, which challenged the initial characterizations of what was actually said.

"White House says Manchin brought up Gang, Trump told him it was fine for them to get together," the Weekly Standard's Mike Warren noted amid the latest media-instigated feeding frenzy. "Says POTUS did not say he was open to bill."

Shortly after that, MSNBC's Kasie Hunt published a transcript of the West Virginia senator's remarks.

Needless to say, what Manchin said was a lot less news-y than Kim's tweet would lead one to believe.

"We were trying to explain the [Gang of Eight] bill," the senator told Hunt. "[Trump] says, 'well, I know what amnesty is, and I'm totally opposed to amnesty.'"

"I said, 'but this, this 10-13 year pathway forward — that you have to play by the rules.' He said, 'well I want to see it.' So he was very anxious to see it. He says, 'I know what amnesty is.' And I said, 'sir, I don't think you're going to find this amnesty at all.' [Trump] is open — he is open to reviewing this piece of legislation. He says, 'well you've got to start working on it again,' and I says, 'absolutely we will,'" Manchin said.

Wow indeed.

Tennessee Republican Senator,Lamar Alexander, also mentioned in this story, is all for amnesty. The president should not open that door one inch or encourage anyone to write up anything. Shut any comprehensive immigration reform talk down. Say we are going to enforce the laws from now forward in our nation. We are going to prefer the American people, hire Americans first, not foreign citizens, legal or illegal.
