Trump portrays Clinton as a hypocrite for recount effort

Trump portrays Clinton as a hypocrite for recount effort

President-elect Donald Trump is still railing against the Clinton campaign’s decision to participate in Green Party nominee Jill Stein’s call for a recount in Wisconsin.

Late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, Trump used Hillary Clinton’s own words against her to suggest that his former campaign rival was hypocritical for implying that the election results might have been wrong.

“The Democrats, when they incorrectly thought they were going to win, asked that the election night tabulation be accepted. Not so anymore!

“Hillary Clinton conceded the election when she called me just prior to the victory speech and after the results were in. Nothing will change,” Trump wrote.

During the campaign, Trump complained repeatedly that the election was “rigged” against him, and refused to promise to accept the results if he lost during one of the general election debates.

On Twitter on Sunday, he cast that rhetoric as calling for a “delay,” and quoted Clinton’s response:

"That is horrifying. That is not the way our democracy works. Been around for 240 years. We've had free and fair elections. We've accepted the outcomes when we may not have liked them, and that is what must be expected of anyone standing on a — during a general election. I, for one, am appalled that somebody that is the nominee of one of our two major parties would take that kind of position."

Trump also noted that Clinton, in separate comments, had called Trump’s refusal to say whether he would respect the election results “a direct threat to our democracy."

And he quoted from Clinton’s concession speech, in which she said: "We have to accept the results and look to the future, Donald Trump is going to be our president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead."

“So much time and money will be spent - same result! Sad,” Trump concluded.

The Green Party’s Stein — citing unproven allegations of hacking — has raised millions online to underwrite recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Wisconsin officials said on Friday that they would proceed, but Stein has not yet filed the required paperwork in the other two Rust Belt states.

Clinton’s general counsel, Marc Elias, announced on Saturday that her campaign would help with the recount process in Wisconsin, as well as in Michigan and Pennsylvania if needed.

"Because we had not uncovered any actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology, we had not planned to exercise this option ourselves, but now that a recount has been initiated in Wisconsin, we intend to participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides," Elias wrote.

Trump responded with fury, calling Stein’s efforts “ridiculous” and a “scam.”

“The point to drive home here is that having a secure elections process benefits us all,” Stein replied during an interview Saturday on CNN.

“I invited everyone. I invite Donald Trump’s campaign, Hillary’s campaign. We’ve had calls out to Gary Johnson’s campaign,” she added. “This should be a nonpartisan, people-powered effort to ensure that we can rely on the integrity and security of our votes.”

Trump calls recount efforts ‘sad,’ declares: ‘Nothing will change’

By Amy B Wang and Matt Zapotosky November 27 at 9:20 AM

Leaders of the Green Party in Wisconsin said on Nov. 25 that they are filing a request for a reconciliation of paper records in Wisconsin, to ensure the accuracy of the tally in the U.S. presidential election. Hillary Clinton's campaign said on Nov. 26 that it will participate in the recount, exploring whether there was any “outside interference” in the election results. (Reuters)

President-elect Donald Trump unleashed a tweetstorm on Sunday morning about plans by Hillary Clinton's campaign to join in the election recount in Wisconsin initiated by Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Trump had already begun sounding off against the recount efforts late Saturday, when he called them a "scam" by the Green Party to "fill up their coffers." He also criticized the Democrats for joining the effort.

Just after 7 a.m. Sunday, Trump resumed his criticism, saying that Clinton had conceded the election in her phone call to him before his victory speech Nov. 9 and that nothing would change.

Trump then spent five tweets quoting parts of Clinton's responses at the third presidential debate, during which she blasted Trump for telling moderator Chris Wallace that he would "keep you in suspense" rather than outright promise to accept the election results.

At the debate, Clinton had called Trump's answer "horrifying" and "a direct threat to our democracy."

(For the record, Trump's tweets capture the essence of Clinton's debate responses but do not quote the full exchange faithfully. An annotated transcript of the third presidential debate is available here.)

Trump capped it all off by quoting Clinton's concession speech and then his signature adjective: "So much time and money will be spent — same result! Sad"

Clinton’s presidential campaign has been quietly exploring whether there was any “outside interference” in the election. A Clinton campaign attorney revealed Saturday that the campaign would participate in the election recount in Wisconsin initiated by Stein.

In a Medium post, lawyer Marc Elias said that the Clinton campaign had received “hundreds of messages, emails, and calls urging us to do something, anything, to investigate claims that the election results were hacked and altered in a way to disadvantage Secretary Clinton,” especially in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, where the “combined margin of victory for Donald Trump was merely 107,000 votes.”

Elias said the campaign had “not uncovered any actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology.” But because of the margin of victory — and because of the degree of apparent foreign interference during the campaign — Elias said Clinton officials had “quietly taken a number of steps in the last two weeks to rule in or out any possibility of outside interference in the vote tally in these critical battleground states.” He said the Clinton campaign would participate in the Stein-initiated recount in Wisconsin by having representatives on the ground monitoring the count and having lawyers represent them in court if needed. And if Stein made good on efforts to prompt similar processes in Pennsylvania and Michigan, Elias said, the Clinton campaign would participate there, as well.

Funny: Now a secured election will benefit them all. But they fought the laws to show voters ID's, bet that changes soon now that they realize they don't have all immigrants and minority votes anymore.

Donald Trump should of never let his guard down on the Clintons.

He should never of openly softened his stance on a criminal investigation into the Clinton emails and Clinton Foundations pay to play corruption.

The Clintons at this point should fear Trump and the possibility of multiple criminal investigations and indictments rather than continuing there game of manipulation and government corruption.

Trump promised his supporters if he won the Presidency his Administration would conduct a real investigation into all the Clinton corruption scandals and he needs to be pro-active, stay strong and follow through with all his many promises as this is the very reason his supporters put him in the White House.
