Trump's Kids Can't Vote for Him in New York Because They Screwed Up

Trump's Kids Can't Vote for Him in New York Because They Screwed Up

    April 11, 2016

Maybe Donald Trump's kids didn't anticipate their dad doing so well in the 2016 presidential race, or maybe they were just too busy living that reality TV life to register as Republicans. But the Republican frontrunner told Fox & Friends on Monday that Eric and Ivanka Trump won't be voting in New York's primary next week.

Still, as you'd expect from a guy whose whole campaign has been one prolonged deluge of braggadocio, Dad isn't really sweating it.

"They were, you know, unaware of the rules, and they didn't register in time," Trump said in the interview, adding that they feel "very, very guilty."

(New York's closed primary rules require people to switch party registration by the October before the April primary.)

The real estate mogul joked with co-host Steve Doocy that he was going to cut Eric and Ivanka's allowance off.

It's unclear who Trump's four adult children will be voting for in November, if at all. While Donald Jr. is a registered Republican, some of the Trump kids have donated money to Democrats in the past. Which, you know, makes sense given Trump's own bizarre political evolution from pro-choice New Yorker to right-wing firebrand, but whatever.

Two votes don't matter either way, but how embarrassing.

They didn't know you had to register in October 2015. New York has the longest lead time requirement of any state and it caught them off guard. Donald Jr was registered but Ivanka and Eric are independents. Look at it this way, Cruz's 2 kids can't vote either, because they're not old enough. New York should change the registration deadline and make it more similar to other states like 30 or 60 days before the primary, instead of 7 months. They lose a lot of potential Republican voters because of that long lead-time while keeping Democrats locked in.

There's 3 times more Democrats in New York than there are Republicans based on the delegates .... 96 R versus 291 D. Wow. Republicans need to realize that to grow the party you must make it easier for independents and Democrats to join the party when they're excited about a candidate.

Plus with all these shenanigans going on with STOP TRUMP, NEVER TRUMP an ANYONE BUT TRUMP together with the sneaky delegate business Cruz is involved in to steal delegates, a lot of people may not want to be part of such an organization that would do this to a candidate they would have liked to vote for.

This whole process discourages voters when it should be an exciting time to recruit new members of your party.

By the way, why are voter registration records available to the public? It seems to me that should be confidential. For certain jobs and businesses, you may not want to be identified or associated with a party. It should be confidential.

Ivanka Trump slams New York's 'onerous' registration rules

    By NOLAN D. MCCASKILL
    04/12/16 09:55 PM EDT

Ivanka Trump won’t be voting for her father in New York’s primary next Tuesday because of the state’s “onerous rules,” she said.

Both Ivanka, who identifies as an independent, and her brother Eric Trump reside in New York but missed the October deadline to register to vote in the April 19 primary.

“We’re not a family of politicians. We haven’t been in politics very long,” Ivanka Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Tuesday during a town hall with the Republican presidential front-runner and his family. “New York has one of the most onerous rules in terms of registration, and it required us to register a long time ago — almost close to a year ago — and we didn’t do that. We found out about it sort of after the fact.”

Eric Trump echoed that sentiment and highlighted voter registration videos the real-estate mogul’s children have put out. “It was our first kind of foray into politics,” he said. “We didn’t realize how the whole system worked. It was amazing. We actually made it a very big part of the campaign and there’s no one that’s been more visible on the campaign than the two of us, but we made it a very big part to get that message out” to register and vote.

Donald Trump defended his daughter’s independent affiliation, remarking that it’s hard to be thrilled about either party. “She’s gonna switch over to be Republican, I guess, at some point,” he said. “Perhaps she wants to see what’s going on, but I have a feeling she’ll be voting in November for me.”

Trump, who leads his Republican rivals by more than 20 points in the state, has said it’s fine that his kids won’t vote in the primary. “They had a long time [to] register and they were, you know, unaware of the rules, and they didn’t, they didn’t register in time,” he said on Monday. “So they feel very, very guilty.”

“But it’s fine,” he added. “I mean, I understand that.”

The 2 votes don't matter in New York where Trump is polling at 60%.

Yes, JohnDoe2, your vote and everyone's vote in California matters. Trump is ahead in California but only by 7%, so every vote matters in California.

Of course my vote and your vote matters JohnDoe2. You have taken this out of context because as it implies to Trumps two kids and in this NY race, their votes do not matter because he is winning by so much. Hopefully you know now that is what I meant. They will be able to vote for him in the general election.
