Thread: Got Prop Tax Bill! GRRRRR!

Just got my proposed property tax bill for this year. It includes a charge of almost $300 for a local hospital chain. I called them to ask what the tax was for because if it was to cover community emergency services (ambulance, etc), then I could stomach it but of course it is not. I was told it was to cover the debt incurred by the hospitals for treatment of all those patients who can't PAY! Well we all know who THEY are! I asked the man why I should pay to cover costs for illegal immigrants and he of course denied that they were the ones causing these costs. I asked WHO then? He said well, if we have someone come in without papers, or insurance, or can't pay...... I said yes, that's the illegal immigrants. He said no, that his hospital chain covers all of south florida and includes lots of people. I asked him what how many illegal immigrants lived in south florida (can you spell c-u-b-a-n-s aka boat people?). I said look buddy, this is not Omaha, NB. It's south florida! Land of illegal immigration and I would be willing to bet most of those costs were incurred from treating illegal immigrants!
I don't have health insurance but if I go to the hospital and tell them I don't have any, they will either turn me away (why do they take them?) OR they will send my bill to collections who will hound me for months until I pay it! Afterall, I have assets that can be sold to pay the bills (and also the bills for illegals!). GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Doesn't seem right at all does it? I'd guess your councilman did this to you. Our government around here has been spouting that everyone has a "right" to be healthy. Of course this always means that more people are going to share my income. Dixie has been working on a problem like this in her community with some success. She'll likely drop in soon to steer you.
I'd share your post with your reps too. congress.org is a good site to use.

What angers me even more than having to carry their costs is the fact that few if any of them own property either so they aren't getting hit with this fee let alone all the other fees included in that bill that cover all the other community services like school, fire, police, etc. I pay for their health care PLUS I pay for the public services they enjoy solely through having broken our laws to be here and then thumbing their noses at us! I tell people here in stores that I hear speaking Spanish to speak English, particularly those rattling on in spanish to their kids (same kids who are getting sp ed services at school becuz they can't speak english) and they either get mad at you for saying so or they laugh!

Hate to burst your bubble but Omaha, NE has a huge illegal immigrant problem too.

I'll bet they don't have to watch them on the evening news pouring in daily (and arriving on a floating truck from the 50's!), or running across their highways from the shorelines blocking rush hour traffic and JUMPING IN YOUR CAR if you're moving slow enough for them to hop in!
