TX "UNDOCUMENTED" SPECIAL REPORT--GARBAGE IN, OUT!

I've posted a link to the Texas Comptroller's special report:

    Undocumented Immigrants in Texas
A Financial Analysis of the Impact to the State Budget and Economy
    December 2006

    on the OJJPAC.org homepage.

I hope more than a few of you read it and post errors you find in it.

Why? Because illegals and their supporters are already hailing it as "proof" that illegal immigration is good. [Absurd.]

I quickly went through it and found holes in it's assumptions and conclusions.

Garbage in, gargage out--sums up my conclusion about this report.

I'm simply terrible with accounting/numbers or the logic that goes with, and I'll admit to knowing nothing about Strayhorn, so I figured the least I can do is find out who she is and why just might she be 'responsible' for 'garbage in' in order to get 'garbage out', i.e., contrary to all other statistics, a Comptroller's report that, wow, actually favors the illegal's side.

"The report by Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn is the first comprehensive effort by the state government to calculate the benefits and costs of having 1.4 million to 1.6 million illegal immigrants in Texas."

Ut oh, I don't know about you, but these days, 'comprehensive' anything is a Red Flag.

Love this one Carole, you mean to tell me that contrary to any thing I've ever read, you can convince me that those dang illegals aren't costing us a red cent?

"Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn found that illegal immigrants not only contributed more than $17 billion to the state's economy in the last fiscal year, but that they also pay more than enough in taxes and fees to cover the services they receive."

Pardon me if I'm a bit suspicious.

So I want to know her previous spoken and TRUTHFUL position on border security and illegal immigration, because we all know that 'I'm against amnesty may very well mean, but I favor shamnesty'... doncha just love the clever OBL speak?

This link is to a letter written asking just that question. What to do with illegals ALREADY here. The reply...dang if I can find the answer...well maybe no answer, is the answer? I doubt the writer, who REALLY wanted the answer, was satisfied either:

Ok, she 'opposes' illegal immigration (does anyone ever admit otherwise?) and 'favors' border security (ditto). Yet I can find nothing that says exactly what her opinion is of what to do with illegals already here. Attrition/deportation or amnesty? Why does she refuse to be specific? Tancredo and lots of others have no problem?

Well, she wasn't always so vague:

"Strayhorn said in August 2005 that “Immigrants, legal or otherwise, come to Texas to ‘put a roof over their heads’ and Texas has a responsibility to provide them education and health care once they are here.” (Associated Press, 8/16/05)"

Anything else you'd like to give them?

So, I continue searching. I plugged her into Wikipedia and read...nothing suprised me, not even learning that she's Scott McLellan's mother, until I read this:

"A week after the March 7, 2006, primary, Strayhorn picked up the support of defeated 2002 Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tony Sanchez, who signed the petition to place Strayhorn on the ballot as an independent. This means that Sanchez did not vote in the Democratic primary in Webb County. Petition signers must not have voted in the March 7 primary or the April 11 runoff primary."

Tony Sanchez, red flag, a least in some recess of my research memory. Ahh yes...

"Sanchez was CEO of Tesoro Savings and Loan during the 1980s. He famously admitted to $25 million of Mexican Mafia money being laundered under his watch. Sanchez was found not guilty of any wrong doing, but his bank did eventually fail in 1988, at a federal cost of $161 million."

Sanchez briefly worked as Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioner, and after his time there, that agency granted him a controversial 1993 permit to drill gas wells in Falcon State Park. Putting a positive spin on the permit, Sanchez said, “There would be no greater joy than to see a beautiful park that our children and adults can go to and learn about the oil and gas industry.”

"Sanchez also has been a major investor in Blockbuster, Viacom and high-tech ventures. His wealth is estimated at over $600 million.

Sanchez has also contributed huge amounts of money to George W. Bush, and his first campaign. In fact, after Enron, Sanchez was the largest donor, giving an estimated half a million dollars, according to the Center for Public Integrity.

Sanchez has served as aide to Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes. Today, he is chairman and CEO of Sanchez Oil & Gas Corporation, a privately held company he built with his father, Antonio Sanchez, Sr. He and his family are also majority owners of International Bancshares Corporation, a multi-billion dollar bank holding company.

Right after the March 7, 2006 primary, Sanchez announced his support of independent gubernatorial candidate Carol Keeton Strayhorn."

    Also,

1999 he was appointed to the board of UTIMCO by then governor George W. Bush.

    Sanchez, on Strayhorn:

"Carole cares passionately about our state and cares passionately about issues that are important to Texans, such as education. She has been my friend for over 20 years," Sanchez said in a statement.

"She is an honest person and an ethical person and she will be a governor who will be very inclusive," he said. "My family and I have a lot of respect for her."

Connect the dots, I'm sure there are plenty more, but the circle probably only gets bigger. Why am I not surprised?
