U.N. Report Written By American Pro-Immigrant Groups
This report was not written by the U.N., but was written by a number of American pro-immigrant groups and individuals in response to the official U.S. report to the U.N., "2007 Periodic Report of the United States of America." According to the ACLU, "The U.S. government failed to adequately address problems of widespread racial and ethnic discrimination in America at hearings before the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in Geneva despite testimony from the American Civil Liberties Union and dozens of human rights groups highlighting the existence of pervasive racism in this country."

1. Immigrant and refugee communities in the U.S. have been subjected to a range of abuses and assaults in recent years: systematic human rights violations directed by the federal government, local, county and state governments, law enforcement agents, employers and private citizen groups. Working collaboratively, they have advanced hundreds of measures that deny immigrants and refugees due process rights, a living wage, labor protections, and adequate public safety.
