Multiculturalism has failed, says French president AFP/POOL – France's President Nicolas Sarkozy takes questions from some of nine ordinary people on jobs, security

    – Thu Feb 10, 6:10 pm ET

PARIS (AFP) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared Thursday that multiculturalism had failed, joining a growing number of world leaders or ex-leaders who have condemned it.

"My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure," he said in a television interview when asked about the policy which advocates that host societies welcome and foster distinct cultural and religious immigrant groups.

"Of course we must all respect differences, but we do not want... a society where communities coexist side by side.

"If you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community, and if you do not want to accept that, you cannot be welcome in France," the right-wing president said.

"The French national community cannot accept a change in its lifestyle, equality between men and women... freedom for little girls to go to school," he said.

"We have been too concerned about the identity of the person who was arriving and not enough about the identity of the country that was receiving him," Sarkozy said in the TFI channel show.

British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Australia's ex-prime minister John Howard and Spanish ex-premier Jose Maria Aznar have also recently said multicultural policies have not successfully integrated immigrants.

Merkel in October said efforts towards multiculturalism in Germany had "failed, totally."

The comment followed weeks of anguished debate sparked by the huge popularity of a book by a central banker saying that immigrants, in particular Muslims, were making Germany "more stupid."

Britain's Cameron last week pronounced his country's long-standing policy of multiculturalism a failure, calling for better integration of young Muslims to combat home-grown extremism.

He urged a "more active, muscular liberalism" where equal rights, the rule of law, freedom of speech and democracy are actively promoted to create a stronger national identity.

The prime minister, who took power in May 2010, argued that "under the doctrine of state multiculturalism, we have encouraged different cultures to live separate lives, apart from each other and the mainstream".

He said this had resulted in a lack of national identity in Britain which had made some young Muslims turn to extremist ideology.

Sarkozy said in his television interview Thursday that "our Muslim compatriots must be able to practise their religion, as any citizen can," but he noted "we in France do not want people to pray in an ostentatious way in the street."

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen late last year came under fire for comparing Muslims praying in the streets outside overcrowded mosques in France to the Nazi occupation.

Marine Le Pen said there were "ten to fifteen" places in France where Muslims worshipped in the streets outside mosques when these were full.

Notice how they had to refer to him as a "right-wing president," as if expecting assimilation for those who were allowed to immigrate to France (and treated to abundance of welfare money) is an extremist position. That’s the inference they are trying to make here I believe.

My goodness, I wish this guy was our president. I never thought I'd live to see the day that I would be envious of anything that comes from France.

England, France and Germany’s leaders have finally begun to speak out about and against it. It may be too late.

America refuses to even acknowledge it

    Multicultural Suicide

In his famed poem, Mending Wall, the American poet, Robert Frost chided the rock wall that he and his neighbor would mend each spring, replacing fallen rocks. “He is all pine and I am apple orchard. My apple trees will never get across and eat the cones under his pines, I tell him. He only says, ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

You can see the Great Wall of China from outer space. It is an astonishing piece of work

Begun in the fifth century B.C. and added to by later dynasties, it succeeded in defending China from invasions by northern tribes. In 1600, it helped the Ming dynasty defend against the Manchu, but when the gates at Shanhaiguan were opened in 1644 by a dissident Ming border general, the Manchus quickly seized Beijing and that was the end of the Ming dynasty.

There has been a growing call for a wall on the U.S. southern border with Mexico. Given the way Mexico has fallen into a state of barbaric anarchy by warring narcotics gangs, including increasing murders of Americans foolish enough to go there, it is a very good idea.

There are currently an estimated twelve million Mexicans and “otherâ€

Merry Old England Morphs into Scary New England via Multiculturalism

    2011/02/13

It appears as if this multicultural smack we’re being sold in the U.S. didn’t work out too well in the U.K. Just this past week British Prime Minister David Cameron echoed German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s sentiments from last October that their country’s Pollyanna policy of multicultural yumminess toward Islam’s “way of lifeâ€

Nicolas Sarkozy joins David Cameron and Angela Merkel view that multiculturalism has failed

Failed: Nicolas Sarkozy singled out Muslims when he said that multiculturalism in France had not worked

French president Nicolas Sarkozy has joined David Cameron in condemning multiculturalism as a failure.

Cameron launched a scathing attack earlier this months on 30 years of multiculturalism in Britain warning that it fostered extremism.

His damning verdict came just months after German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that multiculturalism in Germany had failed.

Now Sarkozy has joined the growing number of European leaders who have adopted identical views on multiculturalism.

He told the French people: 'We have been too concerned about the identity of the person who was arriving and not enough about the identity of the country that was receiving him.'

The president made the declaration in a TV debate last night after being asked if the policy of encouraging the religious and cultural differences of immigrants was not working.

He told viewers: 'My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure.

'Of course we must all respect differences, but we do not want a society where communities coexist side by side.

'Our Muslim compatriots must be able to practise their religion, as any citizen can, but we in France do not want people to pray in an ostentatious way in the street.

'If you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community, and if you do not want to accept that, you cannot be welcome in France.

Shared policies: German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister David Cameron have both criticised multiculturalism in recent months

'The French national community cannot accept a change in its lifestyle, equality between men and women and freedom for little girls to go to school.'

Sarkozy's statement comes after Prime Minister Mr Cameron said last week that public money should not be handed to ethnic groups who did not share British values.

He called for an end to the 'passive tolerance' of divided communities and said members of all faiths must integrate into wider society and accept core values.

His remarks were praised by the leader of the French National Front Marine Le Pen, who said Mr Cameron's views proved that he supported her far right-wing party's ideals.

She said: 'I sense an evolution at European level, even in classic governments. I can only congratulate him.'

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Australia's former prime minister John Howard and former Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar have also said in recent months that multicultural policies had not successfully integrated immigrants.

You hit the nail right on the head AirborneSapper7: And it is happening here, too. And if we continue to hide our heads in the sand, I fear we, too, are lost.....Let's hope it's not too late! We need to stop pandering and take a stand.

Those coming to America need to become Americans! Those coming to America need to respect our Constitution and live like Americans!
