    The Unapologetic Mexican

I KNOW THAT THERE ARE AMERICANS who earnestly don't understand why the US Government talks out of both sides of its neck, when it comes to immigration. They are angry and baffled, and it's sort of sweet, to see their ignorance. It would be sweeter if they weren't ready to be violent behind it. But if I am going to be honest with myself, I have to admit that there are some people, like Lou Dobbs, or Jim Gilchrist's Minutemen, who truly don't understand why our Government seems to drag its feet, or not want to make a move on any real anti-immigration tactics—even while it talks up a good game.

To you and me (and to most sane, informed people) it is clear that the Pharaoh needs slaves. The Pyramid needs many, many people toiling in the limestone quarries if it is ever going to reach the stars...and stripes. The factories must run, the help lines be manned, the vegetables must be picked, the dollars must be made. And all at an unprecedented rate, low overhead, and massive profits.

Most of those who figure this out, or already know it, let it be. They just don't give a damn, or they have reason to let it be! It profits them. They are a part of it. They ride the huge steel gears in motion. They understand, ala Alan Watts, about poles; about dark and light, about the cost of free flight, the loan shark that waits in the wings every night. They are not fools. They know that the USA did not become a chrome plated diamond studded velvet lined plaza all on its own! So they eat their own piece of American Pie, and let the sleeping galley slaves lie.

But, now the Minutemen fume in their ignorance, and they insist on Knowing the Truth! Why can't we have cheap goods and services and rich CEOs and still not outsource or insource or whatever in the hell you want to call Trying to Squeeze It Out of Both Ends???

Now, you see the conflict being met. Awash with bravado and a flurry of forms, The Minutemen have filed papers behind the Freedom of Information act, determined to teach themselves what it is that they don't know, and why El Gobierno is dawdling. We note the determination and naïveté; the cheeks ablaze with pink righteous indignation, satchels full of documents, marching toward the corner of New Information. It's admirable. their drive to discover; to become learned; to increase their un'erstandin'. They shout about a shadow government that cares not for American Borders or Interests. They claim that copying other nations' officials on emailings is collusion between officials. And though they have nada, in the way of evidence, their thesis is valid.

Watching their innocence slip away, we are sad for these men. we see the monster around the corner. Their monster. Their inevitable loss of ignorance and simpleminded patriotic ideal once they discover the truth of things; the truth of this Great Land—that when broken down into CEOs and Presidents and Stockholders and Politicians and Lawmakers, even America cares not for America. That these men that rule us care only for naked power and shiny coin. The dollar (or the electronic credit) is the only bandera in the land, the only anthem tootin' out tha grandstand.

Shadow Government? Borders? Countries? Patriot Fantasies? Nah. Free Trade, baby. Globe of the world, Home of the Freeeeee Trade. Numbiz, Gilly. Banks and numbiz. Coin. Welcome to America.

Do we ever hear anything except about the "economy." Nothing matters except dinero and lots of it.

What part of "We don't owe our jobs to India" are you unable to understand, Senator?

Unapologetic needs to read some of the stuff by Mecha & La Raza
(when it isn't being PC.) I don't think they will have much use for
narcissistic neo-lib artists after the revolution.

It's very old ground. The robber bandanas & tattoos make it oh-so-edgy,
but Richard Rogriguez has done it much better for the estab lib crowd
with "Hunger of Memory" and unlike this Artist Formerly None As type,
without all the pretty boy talk.

See, people who want to enforce our laws can be psuedo-intellectuals
    when the need arises.
