San Antonio–With more than 20 anti-immigrant bills pre-filed in the state legislature in less than forty-eight hours, Texas immigrant youth begin their third day of a hunger strike, asking to meet one-on-one with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to discuss the urgency of the federal DREAM Act.

I was told Hutchinson wrote a statement which read ( para phrased" "Although at one time she supported the Dream Act she could not support this version which is much different ".
I can't find her statement and will post if found. We need to keep the pressure on her,in a nice but firm way, just in case she weakens."A Government big enough to give you everything you want,is strong enough to take everything you have"* Thomas Jefferson

You mean they are going to starve themselves by not using their food stamps for a while?

SAN ANTONIO - Fourteen days after a group of students from UTSA began a hunger strike in the hopes of encouraging lawmakers to pass the Dream Act, the strike continues with no foreseeable end in sight.
On Tuesday, some of the striking students arrived at the San Antonio office of US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison to try and meet with the Senior Texas Senator, however, with Congress still in session, Senator Hutchison was in DC and unable to meet with the students.
In the past, Senator Hutchison has support the Dream Act, however, her recent position on the act has not been as strong, with the Senator questioning if the act will allow in more than just the people it is meant to serve.
The Dream Act as an acronym that stands for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors. Essentially the act would allow for illegal immigrant children to earn conditional permanent residency. The children must be between 12 and 35 years old when the bill is passed and then would compete a 6 year period where they would have to graduate from high school and complete 2 years of college of compete 2 years of service in the US military and be of "good moral character".
The bill was first introduced in 2001 and has floated around the capitol for the last decade with various levels of support. Last Tuesday, President Obama called for top House Democrats to reintroduce the bill on November, 29.
Sen. Hutchison, who has expressed a willingness to work with fellow Republicans to pass a form of the bill, is expected to be back in Texas for the Thanksgiving recess, the students from UTSA hope to meet with her then. The Senator has expressed concern over the health of the students involved in hunger strike, asking them to consider another way to push their message.
Students from UT Austin, UT Arligton and UT El Paso as well as other schools have joined the UTSA students in their protest.
