Webb Amendment to Narrow Immigration Bill

Demonstrated Connections to Community Needed for Pathway to Legalization

Washington, DC – Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) today filed an amendment to narrow the scope of the Comprehensive Immigration Bill by requiring all new applicants for citizenship to have demonstrated connections to their communities. His amendment also strikes the bill’s unworkable “touchbackâ€

    On the floor, Webb said,

"I have heard loud and clear from Virginians, and I have talked with people on all sides of this issue. What I hear over and over again is that Congress should find a fair system that both protects American workers and respects the rule of law. This amendment represents the fairest method I know to do so, and to do so realistically. "

Now could someone PLEASE explain how it came to be that this "fair system" could both protect American workers and respects the law while giving amnesty to illegal aliens so they could enjoy U.S. citizenship and U.S. benefits?

Where is the FAIR SYSTEM here? Who is this "FAIR" to? Would it be to the American workers? If so, HOW? What law is being respected here? Would it be the laws of illegal tresspassing, of felonious identity thefts and misrepresentation via forging and uttering?

Does Webb honestly think that Virginians are this stooopid?!

The corporations of Virginia, like the other 49 states are demanding an abundant supply of cheap labor. This is more corp. welfare. Webb is listening to "the corproation", not "the people".
