Lawyer: Teacher who fled to Mexico will plead not guilty

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A Nebraska schoolteacher who fled to Mexico with a 13-year-old male student will plead not guilty to federal charges stemming from the weeklong trip.

That word today from 25-year-old Kelsey Peterson's lawyer. Peterson is scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court in Omaha tomorrow.

Peterson's attorney, James Martin Davis, said the federal charges of crossing a border to have sex with a minor aren't appropriate. He says the only thing Peterson might be guilty of is statutory rape, but says the boy might be too old for those charges to apply.

Davis says the boy has inconsistently identified his age and birthday, and that Peterson and others have told him that the boy has a 2-year-old son.

A birth certificate provided by the Mexican police officer who arrested Peterson shows that the boy is 13 years old.

Considering that Fernando is 13 right now and it takes 9 months for a baby to be born he had to be either 10 or 11 when the conception took place. I wonder how old the mother of his baby is?

Thinking of this just makes me ill!

Is that even bioligically possible? I mean, the boy would have had to have been 10 years old when he fathered the child??

I think it's been proven that Mexican birth certificates will say whatever you want them to say, which is not necessarily the truth. See other thread on the rape case.

baby's having baby's

Her attorney at one time questioned his age, and asked for a birth certificate. Then another article said that he had gotten the certificate and he was 13. I wonder if he got a real certificate, someone had told him the boy was 17 or 18. The boy shaves daily, not typical for a 13 year old at all.

How much do you want to bet he is not 13...I have never seen a 13 year old shave. something is very wrong here.

It was in some post on here that he was a gang member and had been in some type of detention center.
