Former U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton of Austin is teaming up with former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and a host of other former Bush administration lawyers to start a new national law firm.

Sutton will head the Austin office of the firm, which will be called Ashcroft Sutton and Ratcliffe in Texas. Another partner, John Ratcliffe, is the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.

Sutton resigned earlier this month as the top prosecutor in the Western District of Texas, which includes Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and other Texas cities.

He told the Austin American-Statesman after announcing his resignation that in addition to working in the private sector, he wanted to be an occasional commentator in the media, someone he described as a “conservative voice of reason.â€
