Senators warn Bush has no authority on Iran
Senators warn Bush has no authority on Iran
Thirty US senators wrote to President George W. Bush Thursday, warning he had no authority to launch military action against Iran, and expressing concern about the administration's "provocative" rhetoric.
The senators, 29 Democrats and one independent, urged the resolution of disputes with the Islamic Republic through diplomacy.
"We wish to emphasize that no congressional authority exists for unilateral military action against Iran," the letter signed by senators including presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Joseph Biden said.
The letter warned that a resolution passed by the Senate in September, calling for the designation of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist group, should not be used as a pretext for war.
It hit out at "provocative statements and actions" by the administration on Iran, after Bush last month warned Tehran must be barred from nuclear weapons to avoid the prospect of "World War III."
"These comments are counterproductive and undermine efforts to resolve tensions with Iran through diplomacy," the letter, coordinated by Virginia Senator Jim Webb, said.
Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, a fierce critic of the administration's policies, sent his own letter this week to Bush, reportedly calling on him to open direct talks with Tehran.
His staff confirmed the letter had been sent, but declined to release a copy.

Well....
I am a little more creative in my assessment of the situation.
Bush is working on behalf of entites DEFINETLY not inline with american interests. He has been hijacked by special interests.
HE WILL BOMB IRAN. The goals is the "liberate" iraq, move into Iran and form a central bank for that area.
Also, the central banks are looking to consolidate their power by forming the NAU.
Now, we are ALL worried about terrorist and we WILL be attacked before the primaries or sometime during them IF one of the appointed (CFR supported) Candidates is not winning. This will crystalize our "perceived" hate of the MSM generated enemy - islofascist islamist terrorists. So, we will go into Iran and then Syria.
IF TERRORISM was "SUCH A CONCERN" and such a thing to combat, then why are our BORDERS WIDE OPEN. That is red herring. The pink elephant in the corner. That question is so full of contradictions for our foreign and domestic policies. Yet, the border is WIDE open, monies agreed upon for a wall - never built. Chertoff (check his credentials), makes up every excuse and flipflops on the issues of border security... etc..
If any of you get an afternoon, read the Patriot Act - a HORRID piece of legislation that strips or potentiates to strip MANY constitutional rights we have as citizens in the name of fighting terrorism. Just one more step towards fascism. Provisions IN the Patriot Act enable Bush to suspend elections and pretty much bomb any ENEMY TERRORIST --- thus, the recent declartion (that hillary and MANY others signed) that Iranian guards are considered terrorists... setting up the precursor for validation..... oh, this is all planned.
