WAUKEGAN IL may rescind their request for the 287g!!!

    Hi guys!

Tonight we had a City Council Meeting, and of course, there were people bussed in from out of town to protest the 287g program that our Council recently said we would go for. The meeting was to start at 8, but was filled with these people by 7, so many of our local residents couldn't voice their approval of the city moving forward on this.

I was finally let in around 9:00, as they would let one person in, when one left. Anyhow, I only heard a couple speakers talk at public speaking time, and not one was from Waukegan. After the public speaking was over, they all walked out chanting NO 287g! (they also were all over the steps of City Hall with their drums, in fact, it was so loud, I could barely hear the rest of the meeting upstairs!)

Anyhow, at the end of the meeting, one of our Aldermen made a motion ot RESCIND our request for the 287g program!! It is now tabled until the next meeting in 2 weeks. I'm at my wits end! I can't believe this is happening!! What more can I do? I'm writing the aldermen and mayor again, and also writing a 'letter to the editor' of our local newspaper. How do I get people to show up at the next meeting 2 hours earlier so WE, the local residents can get a chance to speak?

Oh, and the local spanish radio station said that if Waukegan passes this, they will boycott all the non-spanish owned businesses here. Please let me know how to get our local leaders to listen to US, the local residents, and not people bussed in from out of town.
Bless my friends and family, and God Bless America!

Gosh it sounds like a mess in waukegan and such a shame.I have been to your city several years ago and it was a nice place then.

Whose side is the Mayor on,the immigrants or the citizens?

I would think the local citizens should be given the seats available NOT the people bussed in.

Are these people coming in Illegals? If you know they are for sure I suggest you call ICE and tell them when they will be at your meetings and ask them to come pick them up.We have strict immigration laws and they need to uphold them !!!

I don't know if this helps any but keep fighting...stay strong..and bug the H--l out of law enforcement call DHS,ICE & Local Police.

We all are raising our voices against this terrible injustice by our government against american citizens and hopefully they will start listening. If not we will replace them !!

Let us know what happens please.

Busing people from out of town seems to be a common tactic.

What matters is what the locals think, or that's how it should be anyway.

I agree! Can't the city stop those that are not city residents from participating in the meeting? If that is not a possibility, perhaps the meeting hall can be divided into two sections, one section for city residents and one for non-city residents (of course the city residents should get the larger section). Your mayor and alderman have to know exactly what is going on, they can't be stupid enough to believe all the folks at the meeting are city residents. Furthermore, the Aldermen that made a the motion to halt the request has probably been against it all along and saw an opportunity to use the non-city resident revolt to his advantage.

    This is unbelieveable!!!

I would really suggest that you study a copy of how your Council meetings are supposed to be conducted, because it certainly seems to me that there has to be something going on here that violates some city, or even state policy, or law concerning these things.

And, you say there was a large gathering of people beating their drums and such? I would look into it and see what constitutes a gathering requiring a permit to assemble. If people are being bussed in, where does this cease to be a Council meeting and become a rally?

Also, have you tried making an appointment to see the mayor and aldermen? You should probably look into meeting with them personally to discuss this if at all possible.

By all means, gather your proof and let the authorities know.

Now, as to how to get the citizens of your city there early enough to get seats.......you may have to go the flier route, announcements in church bulletins, or whatever other creative way you can think of to get the word out. I'm sure you'll be able to find some people to help you out with this.

Yeah, this is pretty unbelievable. And we get asked for a zip code when we call Senators from other states, even though what Senators decide affects all of us. What are these city officials thinking to let non-residents take all the seats. Don't they check the residence of the participants?

    Where's my blood pressure medicine!

BlessUSA, could you throw up some contact info for these city officials?
As well as your ideas about who was involved in letting nonresidents take the seats of residents? While you are at it, could you give us some contact info for your State officials. I know you have alot of pro-racketeering officials in your state, but we can all at least make some noise so they know we are all watching them.

I would get on the phones and make sure the city council knows personally what you and every other person there that couldn't get in was going to say and remind them YOU VOTE!

HOW ABOUT SUGGESTING THAT THEY ONLY LET IN RESIDENTS OF THE CITY - BY SHOWING IDENTIFICATION WITH THE PROPER STREET ADDRESS.

Seems like a no brainer. Sure they can come in, but the meeting will ONLY BE FOR RESIDENTS OF THE AREA. Why else would anybody be allowed to come?

I would seriously suggest this. --

    Good Morning everyone,

Thank you so much for all of your replies and advice. I will definately be calling and writing to our Mayor and aldermen, requesting them not to back down from their decision to apply for 287g. If anyone here would like to write to them also, we would really appreciate it. Their e-mail addresses are:

    Mayor Richard Hyde~ Mayor@ci.waukegan.il.us

    Aldermen: rick.larsen@ci.waukegan.il.us, riverafriends@yahoo.com, moisio3rdward@sbcglobal.net, mayor@ci.waukegan.il.us, jafig8645@hotmail.com, john.balen@ci.waukegan.il.us, edithnewsome@aol.com, tenpas6@yahoo.com, pneedham@iconnect.net, aldermancunningham@sbcglobal.net

I did call ICE before I went down to the meeting, as I heard about the protest before I got there. Another person also called them, but I saw nobody from their agency down there.

I'm going to try to make an appointment to meet with the Mayor face to face. (Hmmm maybe I'll hook up with Fedup and see if we can go together!) I've called the local radio station this morning, and voiced my concerns there, also. Hopefully that will get more local residents mad enough to actually want to take action. I'm going to be writing a "letter to the editor" of our local newspaper too.

Thank you again for all of your ideas! You've perked me up again!! I will keep you posted on our fight here. Thank you all!!
Bless my friends and family, and God Bless America!

Well, I just sent out this "letter to the Editor" to our local newspaper...Hopefully they will publish it...I'll keep you posted...

    ARE WE MAD YET???

I had the pleasure of being present at the Waukegan City Council meeting when they agreed to apply for the 287g program. This is a huge step in the right direction for our City and I applaud Mayor Hyde and the Council for taking this very important first step.

Then came the rally both at Holy Family Church, and this past City Council meeting on July 2nd. I don't understand how people that are not citizens of Waukegan, can make demands from our Mayor, and threaten him and the City Council with boycotts if they proceed with the 287g program. Do they not understand that this process will speed up the process of getting felons out of our city?

For those of you that weren't at this last City Council meeting, you missed quite a show. There were people bussed in from out of town, to fill the seats in the board room, so citizens of this town couldn't get a seat. We had to wait outside, and if somebody happened to leave, one of us were then let in. When you did finally get in, it was very difficult to hear the meeting, with all the chanting and beating of the drums outside. Take a look at the front page of the July 3rd News-Sun. There is a picture of a person, literally in Mayor Hyde's face! This just shows total disrespect for the highest position in our town. The Mayor and the City Council need to stand their ground, and not let this in-your-face attitude sway them from their goal of making Waukegan a safer place to live.

I am very upset that, as a citizen of Waukegan, I was not able to get a seat in the meeting because of these out-of-towners, most of who have no interest in the day to day living here. In fact, after the public comment part of the meeting, they all left!! I counted 32 people left in the board room when they cleared the room. It was only then that the rest of the citizens were able to come in and sit down.

So, are you mad yet? Are you going to let out-of-towners tell our Mayor and City Council what to do? Are you going to let them threaten our officials with boycots if they continue to persue the 287g program? If you are, then you deserve what the city will become. If you're as angry as I am, you will show up to the next City Council meeting on July 16th, and show Mayor Hyde that you support him wanting to protect us from dangerous felons. You will get your neighbors to show up, and show up early to get your seat.

Another thing you can do is educate yourselves. Our local radio host, Fred Flannigan, is having an Immigration Conference on July 14th at the College of Lake County. There will be a public viewing (1st in the Chicagoland area) of the movie "Border", and a bunch of guest speakers including Chris Burgard, the author of this movie, and Joe Loya and Monica Ramos, the Father-in-law and Wife of imprisoned border patrol agent "Nacho" Ignacio Ramos. For more information on this must-see conference, call 312-246-0950, or go to his website at www.acitizensvoice.com . It's time the citizens of Waukegan stand up, educate yourselves, and take action. Make an informed decision and support our Mayor in his quest to protect this great city of ours.
Bless my friends and family, and God Bless America!
