Hi All:

OK, a bit of a problem here. Sue Kelly who is my congresswoman needs TO GO...but, she cannot be replaced with someone who is EVEN WORSE for working class legal American citizens. In my email this evening, I got the press release copied below...reading it, you can see this man has a ONE TRACK AGENDA, and should not be representing the citizens of New York in any fashion.

Hopefully, the first thing some of us can do is email his organization and tie him down on where he stands on day laborers since they are one of the primary areas addressed in this press release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peeksill, NY, March 20 – Darren Rigger, Democratic candidate for New York’s highly contested 19th congressional district, announced the formation of “Latinos for Rigger” today. Rigger, a Latino of Puerto Rican descent and the first Latino to run for federal office in the lower Hudson Valley, feels the group will be instrumental in his win against Republican incumbent, Sue Kelly.

According to Rigger, the group will help address the growing needs of the Latino community while maintaining focus on the importance of electing a Latino to Congress. “With the growing Latino population come new issues that, up to this point, have never been addressed,” Rigger said. He cited the turmoil surrounding day-laborers in Putnam County.

In the 109th Congress, there are only 24 Latino members serving in the House of Representatives, although Latinos are the largest minority group in the United States. “The statistics are disconcerting at best,” said Rigger. “It is our duty to show young Latinos that their ethnicity is something to be proud of and not an impediment to success.” He continued by saying that strong role-models within the Latino community will help instill this ideal.

Rigger, a longtime advocate for progressive Latino causes, has worked for the Hispanic Education Legal Fund on the Hispanic Voter Project, whose aim was to register and empower Latinos throughout the Hudson Valley region. “The Latino community within the 19th district deserves a member of Congress who will listen to their concerns, work with them and truly represent them,” Rigger said.

The official launch of “Latinos for Rigger” will take place at an event on March 28th in New York City. In attendance will be leaders from the Puerto Rican, Dominican and Mexican communities.

After receiving his degree in International Security and Diplomacy from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, Rigger has spent the last 15 years working with prominent Democrats such as gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, Rep. Charlie Rangel and President Bill Clinton. Once elected, he will continue his fight for National security and demand accountability from all elected officials.
