We Need to Talk About the Clinton-Obama Uranium Scandal

Last week, several conservative news outlets discussed the Obama administration’s 2010 approval of the Uranium One deal, following news that the House Oversight Committee will investigate the deal, with the Senate Judiciary Committee later announcing it will do the same. The shady deal—brokered during Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the US State Department—regained national attention last week when newly-released FBI documents showed that senior US officials, including former president Bill Clinton, sought meetings with Russian officials shortly before the agreement was approved.

Perhaps the biggest kicker of the whole case, however, is that the Uranium One Scandal is not only, or even principally, a Clinton scandal. It’s an Obama scandal.

To get the full scope of what’s really going on here, let’s rewind a bit and follow the money trail back to the beginning.
For nearly two decades, Russia has sought to develop its capacity as a nuclear energy producer. Rather than viewing Russia as a rival, the Bush administration dubbed Russia a “strategic partner” and made a nuclear cooperation agreement with the Kremlin in May of 2008. This decision, however, was tabled before Congress could consider it, as Russia invaded Georgia shortly afterwards.

In 2010, the Obama administration granted a US work visa to a Russian nuclear industry executive after the FBI had already compiled substantive evidence indicating the official was engaged in bribery, extortion and kickbacks while the administration considered a deal that eventually ceded American uranium assets to Moscow.

“It is concerning that a suspected criminal was able to apply for and renew a work visa while being under FBI investigation,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) wrote Tuesday to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Elaine Duke.

The individual in question, Vadim Mikerin, an executive for the Russian nuclear firm TENEX, was involved in illegal activity as early as 2009, but the Obama administration allowed him to enter the US on a temporary work visa in December 2011, which was renewed in August 2014. A few months later, Mikerin was arrested and charged with extortion.

In the five years between Mikerin’s first documented illegal conduct and his arrest and charges, the Obama administration approved the Uranium One deal, which gave control of 20% of US uranium production capacity to Mikerin’s parent company Rosatom, and allowed contracts amounting to billions between TENEX and American utility companies.

Meanwhile, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton, received millions of dollars from Russian officials while she sat on the very committee that approved the deal.

(…Do you smell that? Something stinks.)

Vadim Mikerin was also the general director of TENEX’s American arm, TENAM USA, in which he was responsible for arranging and managing Rosatom’s contracts with American uranium purchasers—this giving him vast leverage over American companies. With the help of several collaborators, Mikerin used this leverage to extort and defraud the US contractors into paying inflated prices for uranium. The proceeds were then laundered through shell companies and secret bank accounts in Latvia, Cyprus, and Switzerland.

Along with enriching Kremlin-connected energy officials in the U.S. and in Russia to the tune of millions of dollars, these inflated payments also compromised the American companies that paid the bribes, rendering players in US nuclear energy — a sector critical to national security — vulnerable to blackmail from Moscow.

So, what exactly does this mean for the Democrats involved? Not only are the Clintons implicated in a uranium deal with the Russians that compromised national-security interests, but this essentially qualifies the Clinton Foundation as a criminal enterprise – something I’m sure you all already knew.

And looking past the Clintons, what does this scandal say about Obama? The Obama administration, with Secretary Clinton at the forefront but hardly alone, was knowingly compromising American national security interests. The administration green-lighted the transfer of control over one-fifth of American uranium-mining capacity to Russia, a hostile regime — and specifically to Russia’s state-controlled nuclear-energy conglomerate, Rosatom.

To make matters worse: at the time the administration approved the transfer, it knew that Rosatom’s American subsidiary was engaged in a racketeering enterprise that had already committed felony extortion, fraud, and money-laundering offenses (yes, you read that right).

A handful of small conservative news outlets covered this subject a year ago, suggesting that the Justice Department should be investigating the Clinton Foundation, and its exploitation of Hillary Clinton’s influence as Secretary of State, as a potential racketeering case. Yet the subject was still largely ignored by the mainstream media– who instead continued to publish stories on suspected collusion between then-candidate Donald Trump and Russia.

Media Research Center President Brent Bozell has called the lack of coverage on the scandal a “blatant cover up.” “Their credibility continues to rapidly erode,” Bozell stated, “These ‘journalists’ are on notice. We will continue to hammer them until they can no longer ignore this story. The media have failed the American people and must be held accountable.”
The media has spent nearly a year promoting myths about a Trump-Russia connection that they have not been able to prove. Since October of 2016, Trump has been attacked by the left with unrelenting accusations of Russian collusion. Now, as a flurry of fresh allegations emerge that concretely tie Hillary Clinton to a series of sneaky, underhanded dealings, all of which point to actual Russian collusion, the media continues to ignore this story.

Hold journalists and news outlets accountable. Do not let the liberal media act as an accessory to the Democrats who continue to jeopardize our national security. The time is past due for the Obama administration and the Clinton Foundation to come clean.

investigation into both the Clinton's and Obama.

The Clinton's, avoided prosecution for 3 decades because they had an army of corrupt government officials and
a library filled with information to blackmail anyone who didn't play along.

For years, Congress, DOJ and FBI wanted to go after the Clinton's and now that they are out of government
and have no power, it is inexcusable to do nothing.
