WHAT CAN BE DONE AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL

Let's gather all of the laws and bills from this past year and have them in one place. There were many state legislatures and local cities and towns that passed some type of legislation or ordinances that we need to collect to pass on to our state senators and representatives.

Some states had numerous bills, some passed, some failed, but they all need to be accumulated to seek passage this next year. We can help one another to have options for our state and local officials to support and hopefully adopt. What did your state do this year, if anything?

Tennessee used the Georgia Immigration Compliance Act to craft an attempt at reducing illegal immigration and the influx of illegal aliens. On July 1st, thousands of illegal aliens are expected to flee GA and head to TN.

Collect a folder full of what states are doing and then put it in the hands of your State, Local, and other representatives.

Let's help one another to save our states, and our nation.

    Psalm 139:14
    Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Re: WHAT CAN BE DONE AT THE STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL

The BEST state model I have seen on illegal immigration is OKLAHOMA.
Any Sooner out there who can give us a rundown? I know you have clamped down on social services for illegals as one example of the new laws recently passed.

Would someone please locate Oklahoma legislation?

We were able to give our state representatives information which they used to draft bills. Let's share what each state has done.

    I found this - COLORADO

    (quote)

I was the only Republican senator to pass any meaningful legislation during the regular session on immigration reform. Both SB 90 and SB 110 reflect the swelling voice of the people of Colorado to address this growing problem. Although much of the needed reform must come at the national level, we must do everything we can in Colorado to be sure that we become known as one of the toughest states in the union when it comes to cracking down on illegal immigration.

SB 90 is aimed at ending the practice of "Sanctuary Cities" in Colorado. It says that no local government shall enact policies that limit or prohibit the enforcement of Federal or state immigration laws. It makes it clear that anyone who is arrested in Colorado will be thoroughly checked as to their immigration status and, if they are here illegally, they will be reported to the Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office. It requires the local governments tell their law enforcement personal annually, in writing, of this requirement and report to the General Assembly that they have fulfilled this requirement. If they fail to do so they will be ineligible for state grants. We cannot have local officials openly disregarding the laws of our country and state. We are a nation of laws and if we allow selective enforcement of our laws, our nation will surely fail.

SB110 sought to hit those that are exacerbating the illegal immigrant problem by the production of fake documents; and hit them where it hurts...in the pocket book. It put in place the ability for our Attorney General to seek civil penalties of $50,000 per document for this kind of forgery. We must take the profit motive away from those who are engaging is the business of making big money off the illegal immigration trade.

Illegal immigration bills passed in Colo. 2006

    Updated 7/11/2006 8:29 PM ET

DENVER (AP) — State lawmakers approved a measure late Monday that would force a million people receiving state or federal aid to verify their citizenship, part of a package of bills dealing with illegal immigration that Democrats called the toughest in the nation.
The measure would deny most non-emergency state benefits to illegal immigrants 18 years old and older — forcing people to prove legal residency when applying for benefits or renewing their eligibility. The measure passed the state Senate 22-13 and the House 48-15. Both are controlled by Democrats.

GP, the best I can do right now is give you this story from last week's Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I am not from Oklahoma and don't know how to access a copy of the actual bill -- at least not soon. BUT if there is anyone on the board from Oklahoma, how about asking your state representatve to send you a copy of HOUSE BILL 1804.

So I have copied a brief section of the story with the key points of the bill. At the bottom I have provided a link to the full story ... at least this is a start, OK?

Okla. illegal immigration law called model
    By PATRICK McGEE
    Star-Telegram Staff Writer

While a stack of anti-illegal immigration bills died in the Texas Legislature this year, Oklahoma lawmakers passed a law that cuts off illegal immigrants' access to driver's licenses and many government benefits.

"The state ought not to be in the business of providing benefits to people who are not here legally," said Oklahoma Rep. Randy Terrill, the Republican who wrote the bill. Terrill will speak to an anti-illegal immigration group in Dallas tonight.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, more than 1,000 immigration-related bills and resolutions have been filed in the 50 states. Some Texas cities have passed anti-illegal immigration ordinances.

Oklahoma's House Bill 1804, signed by the governor in May, is considered one of the toughest immigration laws in the nation. Among other things, it will:

End illegal immigrants' access to state benefits, including college scholarships.

Empower law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of people they arrest for felonies and drunken driving.

Consider illegal immigrants charged with felonies and some other crimes a flight risk and deny them bail.

Allow fired workers to sue if their former employers have an illegal immigrant doing the same or similar work.

Okay Citizen Bob - I reread your post asking for someone to find, so I deleted the request to you

Thank you for the link. Anything else you find, let us all know. We can gain some knowledge and insight into what is being done and what is not being done to reduce illegal immigration at the state and local level.

The text of bill HB 1804, introduced by Rep. Randy Terrill.

Oklahoma Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act of 2007

The State of Oklahoma finds that illegal immigration is causing economic hardship and lawlessness in this state and that illegal immigration is encouraged by public agencies within this state that provide public benefits without verifying immigration status.

House Bill 2794 from Arizon (this bill did not pass, but was cited as one of the toughest in the nation)

HB 2794 requires any person applying for a public program to provide
documentation demonstrating lawful presence, as required for program
eligibility. Additionally, HB 2794 authorizes the Auditor General (OAG) to
conduct random audits and report noncompliance to the Joint Legislative
    Budget Committee (JLBC).
