I would say that it predates Reagan. It goes back to at latest 1972 when the Dems nominated ultra-leftist McGovern, and the working class base went for Nixon.....possibly even back to Goldwater vs. Johnson. I think the Vietnam War was the watershed of the current ideological breakdown. It enabled the liberals to take over the Democratic party (ironically it was the Dems who started the war). The liberal wing gained momentum because of the war, and the Dems were taken over by hippies, radical feminists, multiculturalists, and everything else that the 1960s brought us. IMO Reagan and the Republicans never cared for the common man. They just saw the opportunity to take up a demographic that the Dems had abandoned. Since then they have been using this demographic as useful idiots in their own plans for globalization, while the Dems drive for globalization using the above stated constituencies.

Of course with the acquiesence, nay ENCOURAGEMENT of the man that Republicans had once considered their golden boy.......The Republicans are incapable of nominating a candidate that is not a globalist or open borders advocate. In my mind that does not put them on much of a higher plain than the Dems.....
