Who will speak for me?

By PAF

I am a young soldier
in a foreign land
sent by a President
to secure freedom for others
I heard the call for patriots
and I stepped forward
without hesitation
without sense of self
now that I am under fire
In a far away place
I carry a rifle
but I cannot carry a phone
Who will speak for me?

I am a border patrol agent
I worked on the outskirts of freedom
and in good faith, I protected our land
Now I sit in jail, wrongly convicted
And I feel betrayed
I have lost my freedom
while protecting the freedom
of Americans
Now that I am imprisoned
and without a voice
Who will speak for me?

I am a murdered American
I am a victim of preventable crime
mowed down on American soil
while living the American dream
I am one of thousands
stolen away every year
from loved ones who sorrow
Now that I am gone
Who will speak for me?

I am a child
Born in a great land
My parents are my protectors
I am too young to speak for myself
but I trust those who look after me
In my innocence I ask
Who will speak for me?

Who will be the voice of the voiceless?
Who will be the protector of the heroes?
Who will be the champion of the children?
Who will be the remembrance of the victims?

If not me, and if not you?
Then who?
