Thread: why 40% of one group getting more immigrant visas

I believe that 40% of yearly legal immigrants are Hispanics - why?
I believe that nearly half of all 9 million legal residents are Hispanics - why?

I always beleived that our immigration policy tended to be ethnically neutral. Why this?

And you see what the situation with illegals is today is there any wonder we all wonder what on earth is going on.

Is there any wonder why we are concerned - to say the least?

It could be a number of things.

After 1965 we essentially discarded quotas that weren't skills-based. The feds might impose limits on how many skilled workers or unskilled agricultural workers can immigrate here-or how many people are given visas for a specific reason-but in terms of number there are no limitations. Because most of the people who immigrate here come from Latin America and Asia it would be reflected in the numbers of immigrants from those backgrounds.

It might have something to do with the fact that immigration from the Western Hemisphere, specifically, Mexico and Latin America, was never restricted in the sense of having hard, numerical quotas that were imposed on Europe, Africa and other continents/regions. This might be a carry-over from our past immigration policies.

There are more illegals from those countries because there are more immigrants from those countries.

Again, these are just theories. You'd have to ask an expert in these issues in order to get a satisfactory answer.

When liberals run our refugee, asylum and immigration programs they are totally blind to an important reality: Americans are already exceedingly generous with developing societies and their inhabitants. Fifty years ago yes, only a few people actually paid much attention to world events and problems in poorer countries. Now, that is no longer true; many people are very conscientious about charity and assistance. But many of these people are in conservative religious congregations and liberals have no clue about this. They would prefer to get their info from half-baked college professors, anti-American news media; left wing demagogues and personality cult leaders.

So for liberals, instead of making a sacrifice to take time out from a career roll up their sleeves and spend some time in a Third World slum, they would rather enact some policy that wreaks havoc on their countrymen or, worse, lash out in some desperate lawsuit anticipating that some equally ignorant judge will hear their case. Because their population is rather large in the Western countries they think everyone else who is knowledgeable holds their views as well.
