What is your sense of the health care nightmare?

I keep looking at what various conservatives are saying about whether this health care nightmare is going to pass no matter what Americans say, how many times they call, or how many radio personalities try to educate people, and I am not hearing much in the way of hope. It feels like Obama is on energy steroids! Running, running, running--and keeping us beaten down every step of the way. I am feeling so disheartened that no matter what we say or do, the democrats are going to ram the thing through! It's depressing. If they do, they will pay in November--but do they even care? I'd love to hear something hopeful from someone.

House heads toward close healthcare vote

By John Whitesides and Donna Smith
    Reuters
    Monday, March 15, 2010; 8:41 PM

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional Democrats took the first step on Monday toward a quick final vote on a healthcare overhaul and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed to muster the votes needed to pass it.

With a close vote expected later this week, House Democrats hustled to line up support and President Barack Obama hit the road in Ohio to push his case for a sweeping overhaul of the $2.5 trillion healthcare system.

Republican opponents promised to make Democrats who support the healthcare bill pay in November's congressional elections, when Democratic control of Congress could be threatened by political fallout over the issue.

But Democratic leaders counseled nervous lawmakers to hold firm and pass the bill, which has been the focus of a political battle that has mired the Congress in legislative gridlock for nine months.

"We need courage," Obama told a crowd in Strongsville, Ohio, during his third road trip in the past week to rally support for his top legislative priority. "This debate is about far more than politics."

The House Budget Committee began the drive toward a final vote, advancing changes sought by House Democrats and Obama to the Senate-passed healthcare bill. Democrats Chet Edwards and Allen Boyd, who opposed the House-passed bill in November, broke with their party on the largely party-line 21-16 vote.

House Democratic vote-counters say they are still short of the votes necessary to pass the overhaul but Pelosi was confident they will hit the magic number by week's end.

"When we bring the bill to the floor, we will have the votes," Pelosi told reporters.

The overhaul would constitute the most dramatic changes to the healthcare system in more than four decades, extending coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans and banning insurance practices like refusing coverage to those with pre-existing medical conditions.

Health insurer shares were mixed on Monday as the broader market was little changed. The Morgan Stanley Healthcare Payor index was up 0.2 percent and the S&P Managed Health Care index dropped 1.1 percent.

'WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN'

Obama also maintained the upbeat tone put forth by the White House during the weekend, telling ABC News: "I believe we are going to get the votes. We're going to make this happen."

Republicans condemn the health bill as a costly government takeover that would lead to higher insurance premiums and less consumer choice. They plan to launch a series of television ads against House Democrats who support the overhaul.

"If there's one thing the American people didn't want, it was for us to make healthcare more bureaucratic and expensive," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell and House Republican leader John Boehner said in a joint commentary in The Wall Street Journal.

Democrats are waiting for final cost estimates from the Congressional Budget Office and more advice from the Senate parliamentarian before unveiling a final package and deciding the exact process for passing it.

In a two-step procedure, House Democrats want to approve the Senate's version of the bill and make changes sought by Obama and House Democrats through a separate measure passed under budget reconciliation rules.

Those rules require only a simple majority in the 100-member Senate, bypassing the need for 60 votes to overcome Republican procedural hurdles.

Pelosi said it was undecided whether the House would take a direct vote on the Senate-passed bill or include it in a separate vote on the reconciliation package. The House Rules Committee will meet on Thursday to determine the process.

House Democratic leaders met in Pelosi's office on Monday to discuss their options but announced no final decisions. "When we have the substance then we will decide on the process," Pelosi said.

The changes in the reconciliation bill include expanding subsidies to make insurance more affordable and extending more state aid for the Medicaid program for the poor.

They also would eliminate a controversial Senate deal exempting Nebraska from paying for Medicaid expansion costs, close a "doughnut hole" in prescription drug coverage for seniors and water down a tax on high-cost insurance plans.

Republicans want Democrats to vote directly on the Senate bill, which includes unpopular provisions like the Nebraska Medicaid deal, so they can use the vote against them in November.

"To resort to these kinds of tactics to deal with this is just plain wrong," Representative David Dreier, the senior Republican on the House Rules Committee, told reporters.

    ______________________________

They don't have the votes as of today, DJ. There's always hope. And if America loses on this and they do get the votes, then Americans will just have to elect people in November who are committed to repealing it and filing lawsuits on the unconstitutionality of many of its provisions like access to medical records, bank accounts, mandates to purchase health insurance and subsidies without cause or merit, tax penalties for choosing not to buy health insurance or provide it to employees, and excessive regulation of the health insurance industry ... using it as a social program instead of a private independent enterprise. The government has the right to regulate for fraud, deceptive trade practices, anti-trust and anti-competitive behavior, but it has no right to regulate prices, control costs or force Americans to pay higher premiums to insure the uninsured.

There are so many anti-American and anti-Constitution provisions in this legislation, it's mind-boggling, such that I believe the Supreme Court will determine the entire bill unconstitutional, I'm almost certain of that.

Ironic isn't it? That the single largest unconstitutional legislation ever passed by the US Congress was pushed by a President who claims he's a constitutional law scholar.

I called my Representative - Melissa Bean of IL 8th dist. - and her lines were busy at the local office and the D.C. office. It took me over an hour to get through. So I spend the down time sending fax after fax. She is now listed as "undecided" after voting "yes" the first time around. When I did get through by phone the person who answered tried to get me off as quickly as possible, only wanting my name, not even asking if I lived in her district. Well THAT wasn't going to work. I went on and on and on, letting him know that if she voted for this bill again, I would be voting AGAINST her. Not in favor of her opponent but AGAINST her.

Are you aware that the Health Care Legislation also contains language that takes all student loans out of the private sector, delegating student loans to the government only? What has that got to do with healthcare?

This bill is a bloated bag of crap. I don't see Americans sitting still for this if it should pass. I think there will be hell to pay, one way or another.

What bugs me the most about the healthcare bill, is that it again consolidates more power in the hands of government that was never meant or envisioned by the Founding Fathers. Except this gives the government life and death control over the people. Not my idea of liberty.

My perspective is that the best way to kill the Health care bill is to point out that they also want to pass an Amnesty bill to make Americans pay for all that health care for illegals turned into voters.

That issue has the power to derail health care legislation but Dick Armey is a Globalist agent that is trying to block that from happening.

So, folks, are we just singing to the choir here or are we on the phone? Call your reps repeatedly. Send faxes. Do what it takes to let your reps know you're against this monstrosity.

Got this in an email this morning this is from a doctor to Senator Bayh

It will bring chill bumps to read this. We must stop this bill.

WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN STOP THIS!!!

This letter appeared in the Indianapolis Star (which is owned by the same people who own the ArizonaRepublic ) and was sent to a very popular Indiana Senator. This just goes to show everyone what pressure these Democrats are currently under, so continue to let them know how you feel about the healthcare bill.
    Bill Stough

    Shock to NBC This morning.

An Indianapolis doctor's letter to Sen. Bayh about the Bill (Note: Dr. Stephen E. Fraser, MD practices as an anesthesiologist inIndianapolis, IN ) Here is a letter I sent to Senator Bayh.. Feel free to copy it and send it around to all other representatives. -- Stephen Fraser

    Senator Bayh,

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government's proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.

I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!

Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.

Page 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS RATIONED!!!

Page 42 of HC Bill: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC benefits for you. You have no choice!

Page 50 Section 152 in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.

Page 126 Lines 22-25: Employers MUST pay for HC for part-time employees ANDtheir families. (Employees shouldn't get excited about this as employers will be forced to reduce its work force, benefits, and wages/salaries to cover such a huge expense.)

Page 203 Line 14-15 HC: "The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax." (Yes, it really says that!) ( a 'fee' instead)

Page 298 Lines 9-11: Doctors: If you treat a patient during initial admission that results in a re-admission -- the Govt will penalize you.

Page 317 L 13-20: PROHIBITION on ownership/investment. (The Govt tells doctors what and how much they can own!)

Page 317-318 lines 21-25, 1-3: PROHIBITION on expansion. (The Govt is mandating that hospitals cannot expand.)
Page 321 2-13: Hospitals have the opportunity to apply for exception BUT community input is required. (Can you say ACORN?)

Page 335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339: The Govt mandates establishment of=2 outcome-based measures. (HC the way they want -- rationing.)
Page 341 Lines 3-9: The Govt has authority to disqualify Medicare Advance Plans, HMOs, etc. (Forcing people into the Govt plan)

Page 354 Sec 1177: The Govt will RESTRICT enrollment of 'special needs people!' Unbelievable!

Page 379 Sec 1191: The Govt creates more bureaucracy via a "Tele-Health Advisory Committee." (Can you say HC by phone?)

Page 425 Lines 4-12: The Govt mandates "Advance-Care Planning Consult." (Think senior citizens end-of-life patients.)

Page 429 Lines 1-9: An "advanced-care planning consultant" will be used frequently as a patient's health deteriorates.

Page 429 Lines 13-25: The GOVT will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order.. (I wouldn't want to stand before God after getting paid for THAT job!)

Page 430 Lines 11-15: The Govt will decide what level of treatment you will have at end-of-life! (Again -- no choice!)

Page 469: Community-Based Home Medical Services = Non-Profit Organizations. (Hello? ACORN Medical Services here!?!)

Page 489 Sec 1308: The Govt will cover marriage and family therapy. (Which means Govt will insert itself into your marriage even.)

Page 494-498: Govt will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, and rationing those services.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.
