Why is Trump being dishonest about his so-called wall?

Why does Trump keep going on T.V. saying he's building his "wall" and that work on it has already in process in San Diego?

Does he really believe his base is that stupid? There was no funding provided for the wall he's talking about in the last budget bill he signed. Actually, the budget specifically stated that there was no money provided for a new wall. The work being done now is repairs and secondary fencing that was already approved prior to his budget.

Don't lie to your base, Mr. President!

New budget allocates no money for border wall for two years

    By Ed Straker

In addition to being a an enormously bloated deficit-busting spending bill, the two-year budget that President Trump signed allocates zero dollars for construction of a border wall for the next two years. So unless Mexico suddenly writes us a check, there will be not an inch constructed of a new border wall three full years into President Trump's term of office.

Some may say it doesn't matter because Trump will get funding for a border wall when he makes a deal with Democrats on "DREAMers" (along with 1.1 million of their "lazy friends"). But Trump would have been in a much better position to demand border wall funding in the budget. The budget, after all, had to pass. The grand compromise concerning the "DREAMers" does not. There is a real chance that there will be no agreement with Democrats. In that case, Trump will have no chance to seek out border wall funding until the next budget, in his last year in office (which really will be his last year in office if he does not build a wall).

That's why Trump should have threatened to veto (and vetoed if necessary) the budget until he got funding for a border wall. Enough Republicans in the House would have prevented an override of his veto, and eventually, he probably would have gotten the funding, or at least some of it.

Now Trump's only way to get funding for the border wall is to give Democrats enough to make them happy. What will that require? Probably amnesty and citizenship for ten million or more illegal aliens. That's a mighty steep price to pay for a border wall. But because Trump didn't insist on funding the wall in the budget, he has no other options. He will have to agree to all the Democrats' demands or get nothing. In any event, it is far from certain that Democrats will ever agree to fund the wall under any circumstances.

When Trump last year signed a spending bill for his first year in office that gave no money for the wall, Trump-supporters said it was still early, still the first year of his administration. Now he has just signed another budget bill for two more years, again without a penny for his highest priority.

Either Trump is a terrible negotiator or he is not really interested in having a border wall.

Remember when Ronald Reagan wanted to fund the freedom fighters in Nicaragua, but the Democratic House of Representatives didn't? Reagan didn't give up; he engaged in hard-nosed negotiating tactics and got what he wanted, from hard-left Democrats led by the neo-socialist Tip O'Neill. Trump isn't even willing to go toe to toe with Congress when it's controlled by his own party. When will we get to see Trump actually fighting for something?

Fact check: Trump says spending bill starts work on his border wall. It doesn't.

    By Jane C. Timms/Mar. 23, 2018

The money earmarked for border security can be used only to repair and build previously approved fencing.
President Donald Trump said Friday that work on his border wall would start as soon as Monday, thanks to the $1.6 billion in border security funding included in the government spending bill he reluctantly signed.

“We’re going to be starting the work literally on Monday, on not only some new wall — not enough, but we’re working on that — but also fixing existing walls and existing fences,” Trump told reporters on Friday at an event to announce the bill signing.

But Trump's claim — that the $1.6 billion triggers work starting on the wall he's promised — is false. The funds earmarked for border protection construction and improvements can be used only to repair and build previously approved fencing, according to the bill. There is $38 million in funds earmarked for their planning and design of border walls, but none for the construction of a new kind of wall like the prototypes Trump recently toured in San Diego.

The construction funding "shall only be available for operationally effective designs deployed as of the date of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2017 ... such as the currently deployed steel bollard designs," the bill reads, referring to last year's funding bill in early May, before Trump's border wall prototypes had even been built.

The law also specifically bars construction on a wildlife preserve that the administration previously identified as a starting point for work on a new border wall.

The president signed the funding bill hours after threatening to veto it. In remarks to the press, he complained that no one had had time to read the lengthy bill.

Trump also added that he's "not happy with $1.6 billion dollars, but it does start the wall and we will make that $1.6 billion dollars go very, very far."

    NO AMNESTY

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.

My first post. I have the same question and many more. The protesters have shut down an ICE office in Oregon! Let me repeat that----protesters have shut down an ICE office! I am 70 years old and did not think this would ever happen in my country, or if it did, it would just be business as usual. Why isn't he sending in the military?

I don't believe he thinks his base is that stupid, but here is what I think he does believe.
He thinks his base is into "hero" worship and that he can do anything he wants and his base will still worship him.

Sad to say but he is correct about a huge portion of his base. I have witnessed them and their comments first hand for over a year now. It is scary to watch.

Like the Saw movie franchise, Trump has drugged America.

When America wakes up, they will be in a rowboat and this is the first thing they will see.
