    Should the Dreamers leave first?

I know Richard has always talked about what a big contribution the Dreamers could make to their home countries.

So I was thinking what if the US came up with a program to convince them to voluntarily return to their home countries, once there they would increase economic opportunities and might advocate for social change and equality, these changes in turn might convince their less educated fellow countrymen illegally in the US to follow them.

Some suggestions to get the Dreamers to leave voluntarily:

    1. Exemption from the 10 year illegal alien re-entry ban.

    2. Six months of free classes to learn about their home countries culture, history, and language. They always use this as an excuse for not returning.

    3. $1000 towards college fees in their home country. Think of it as a Marshall Plan.

The US has already done something similar with the Vietnamese boat people in Asian refugee camps who could not prove political persecution. The US gave $1000 to each family to voluntarily return to Vietnam, and once there if they could provide more documentation they were allowed to re-apply for political refugee visas.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Maybe we could lobby Brian Bilbray to introduce some type of "Home Country Dream" legislation like this in Congress.

It would be wonderful! But, in the case of most of these illegal parents is the foundation they have anchor babies who can't speak the home language; their village is so destitute they cannot feed their animals, much less their families; they are willing to rob and steal us blind to guarantee their children never go through what they have. The dreamers have been brought up on this one way or another and since our k-12 programs teach very little about making do, rather encouraging everyone toward college, the dreamers are not going to leave. Saw something today about some girl, whose parents were both deported along with two kids born in Mexico. She was sent back and was flunking school there. Some group brought her back to the US to go to high school, and now she is worried about her little sister (also anchor baby) losing her ability in English. I know I threw something at the TV, but put another dent in the wall behind.

Well how about if the US offered this as a voluntary program and if they don't sign up deport them involuntarily, without the benefits.

    Thanks

Exactly I think that the illegals should be given the option of leaving voluntarily with the benefit of a shorter exclusionary period say three years instead of ten and a longer scheduled departure than ninety days. The sooner they signed up the longer the period above ground would be.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I think they would have some better than average opportunities---but many of them would have to learn their native language. A US education is a very valuable commodity nearly everywhere when coupled with long exposure to US culture. That's what they tell missions volunteers---simply your background as an American makes you very valuable.

The students might find that they could work their way into upper echelons after awhile. Here they will be close to the bottom unless exceptionally talented. What disappoints me is that so many of them talk about going into legal or social advocacy for immigrants....just repeating the cycle.

With declining birth rates in many countries the immigration tide may start slowing way down in a decade.

Bowman I think you have the makings of a good idea.

I have read about Dreamers who have given up and went to their home countries. They report back that much to their surprise they are flourishing. They are either continuing their education or using their US degrees to land good jobs in their home countries. They are much sought after, especially in international business.

While some sit in the USA focused with absolute tunnel vision and waist their youth trying to shove the Dream Act down our throats the smart ones are getting on with their lives in their home countries and prospering.

Have you ever tried to separate a kid from their cell phone these days? One of my neighbors (citizen) is grumping about her high-school kid that won't give up her phone or I-pod or Internet, unless there is a severe threat of physical harm (just kidding). Personally, I would not be real happy at my advanced age without Internet or cellphone, and these kids will dread going back to a country with limited access. This society has spoiled them and they like it. No, no matter what enticements, very few will even think about going back.
